Why did Captain Beefheart never make anything similar to Trout Mask Replica?
He grew out of it.

nanomachines
he wanted to make it big so later on he went pop with his sound and failed
>>60725340
You can only make one masterpiece in your life. Fact.
Hi there
He did though, check out:
>Doc at the Radar Station
>Shiny Beast
>Ice Cream for Crow
>>60725340
Doc at the Radar station is close
Why did Captain Beefheart spend the rest of his career trying to make Trout Mask Replica?
>>60725340
because he didn't like making shit so he stopped
What's stopping me from stealing someone's riff and then putting it in a constant loop and I just reverb the fuck out of it and feed it plugins until it sounds like popcorn in the microwave and then I just record myself screaming and layer it 3 minutes in and finish "my song" and then I photoshop a picture of wooden baby blocks next to a pyramid and slap a name on it like "nutseed library" and then I keep doing this until you faggots find my shit and start eating it up

my theory is three great album is the max. After that you're out of ideas.
>>60725398
what about kanye
>>60726275
Then you've made none Tbh
>>60726254
Right. But this only applies to artists with vocals b/c lyrical content is the limiting factor.
>exceptions that prove the rule
Brian Eno (~3 great albums --> goes straight into ambient afterwards)
Neil Young (greatest of all time)
Jimi Hendrix (had 3 easily great and then died)
Can (just barely made it to ~4 or 5 great albums)
Bob Dylan (another greatest of all time)
>>60725340
same reason TVU stopped making stuff like TVU&N and WL/WH, because he was under the impression that it was bad due to critical and mass reception
it wasn't until much later did those records receive the appreciation that it has now

Plebs get out.
>Why did Captain Beefheart never make anything similar to Trout Mask Replica?
Because he progressed artistically and ended up making more creative and refined music (once he moved past his poppy phase). Once he got better contracts and better studio sessions, he churned out a holy trinity of masterpieces: Bat Chain Puller, Doc at the Radar Station and Ice Cream for Crow. Those albums all BTFO of Trout Mask. Trout Mask was a creative point of progression but not a masterpiece. /mu/ is hilariously ass backwards for praising the hell out of an album that is objectively inferior to his later work. It was a solid album and a learning experience, but it wasn't GREAT.

Here's your reply.
he ran out of beans and cultists
that said, compared to how much /mu/ constantly talks about TMR, Bat Chain Puller, Doc at the Radar Station and Ice Cream for Crow seem really underrated
Safe as Milk is also as good as TMR in its own way.
>people who think it's exceptional for a great artist to have more than three great albums
Y'all must listen to very few or very poor artists.
>>60726275
He hasn't spent his masterpiece token yet, doubtfully ever will.
>>60727863
You think you know what you're talking about, dont you
He made great albums throughout the 70s but italian rockists didn't praise them as much so /mu/ doesn't talk about them
Also they're not avant but rather accesible and well crafted so there's no cred to gain
