Pretty upbeat and catchy though it is a bit to "poppy" for my tastes. Still a good opener none the less.

I like it, its fun. I scared thered be more burned up avey vocals sans slasher flicks and Hz but they sound free and crisp. Drums sound good too. Just relieved the song is just fun instead of the forced "fun" we got on hz were effect after effect is used to make boring songs interesting.
I expect the rest of the album to be more of the same, quick, catchy concise tunes. Itll be an enjoyable listen but any sonic exploration or atmosphere might be gone. Dont think even a song like #1 or daily routine/no more running will be there. Which kinda sucks but its what we got. Painting with will be diabetes inducing upbeat, but will still be a great listen.
Im still amazed at aveys lyrics and delievery though, i mean goddamn. I know there's better lyricists but his are always good at the minimum. I guess because to me writing lyrics is the hardest thing to do ever.

you kinda outlined my main fear. Its a great song, I like the approach, but I'm not too heavily into the "no B.S droney ambient parts" idea, seeing how thats one of my favorite parts of MPP. Long intros and effects scattered throughout the album did create an amazing atmosphere and MPP would not be nearly as good without that kinda stuff. I feel like they can still do sonic experimentation, but the experimentation will probably be in the instruments used and the structures/melodies of the songs

I feel like avey brought his slasher flicks experience into this. It makes me feel a bit better about the possibility of sickening upbeats for an entire album. I think that album is very underrated and think that portner did some cool stuff on there, even though he was lazy at times.

They're referring to people complaining about their changes in sound, how they're always wishing for their older material. Animal Collective themselves described the band as not "nostalgic." This album won't have those long outros and dreamy sounds of Merriweather or their previous albums, and they're telling you to let it go, stop fighting over it, and that you're not really entitled to anything. Just enjoy the music

The song has grown on me more and more.
The beat is like Grass like other people have said, and the synth sounds made me think of CHz, but the more I listen the more it reminds me of the Strawberry Jam era.
I just pre-ordered (Panda cover, obv) and really hope they don't drop the ball on the rest of the album. Their whole "no reverb, straightforward" thing could be fantastic (Derek, Applesauce), so I'm going to take a chance on them. I've listened to them for so long for free, might as well show them some support.
To everyone talking about how commercial and poppy this sounds, they have been poppier and also already been featured in a commercial as far back as Sung Tongs (Sweet Road was in a Crayola commercial).
