They're smarter than people give them credit for. Everyone acts like they're just butt-rock, but to me the delivery has always come across as a bit tongue-in-cheek

I found new respect for Eddie Van Halen when I read an interview where he said he was inspired when he saw Genesis in the mid '70s and had his skull blown off by Hackett and his fret tapping technique.
I just thought that was really cool, and I learned something about where that all came from.
