Senpai.s, is this a good deal? http://www.segundamano.mx/nuevo-leon/monterrey/instrumentos-musicales/Orange-Micro-Terror-stack_897329785.htm?ca=21_s

It's an Orange Micro Terror Stack for about 200$

It'd be my first amplifier, and I'm looking for a clean mellow sound.
>>
I find G is most viable, especially if you consider the ease of chords muting the 6th string. If you want to get technical g minor is the most flexible, but many chords are a pain.

No, really. You can't use the same hammer-ons if you are using all 4 fingers to make a major. Using only one finger to make a major chord has obvious utility.

I play in the classical position sitting down but it just feels funky. I've played on a few killer Vs and the pylon sitting on the leg is great on the ML and Explorer body.
>>60719253
I own a Dean that's been set up in America, it plays fine but not great. I'm going to put a 85 Dirty finger in it after Christmas just cause the Bill Lawrence LX500 sounds really meh, probably cause it's Korean crap, but it's got an American Floyd Rose so it's not an utter piece of crap and stays in tune to what you'd expect. It's the only one i could find that's affordable but not garbage. Dean's are way to overpriced for what you get.

>American Floyd Rose

I thought they were either made in Germany or Korea?
>>
>>60719371
Look, maybe you can do many of the same things, but think about it this way. Any such tapping around a major bar code, if done with open tuning, gives you 3 more fingers available, on your fretting hand. To put it in the most simple way possible, that's 3 more frets you can change. Additionally, as with any alternate tuning, the pull offs available are different. Finally, you just do not get the same tone from tapping and strumming. Acoustic guitars do exist. Songs not using high gain do exist. Just being able to play the same notes is not the same as strumming.
>>
>>60719698
you're right my kahler is made in America and my Floyd Rose is made in Germany. I guess it's been a long day.

Yes. I have. E2s are an 80s top end model from Gibson. There's nothing wrong with Navigators and Edwards, but they don't hold a candle to something like an E2.

>>
>>60720324
They are certainly better than Norlin era Gibsons. Now if you want some high end Gibsons that Navigators don't hold a candle to, there's the '59 Les Paul. But man, you compared Navigators to the dark era of Gibson, of course they are better than those.
>>
>>60720207
>>60720309
Explorers weren't subject to half of the norlin nonsense. I'm yet to play a bad example of an E2. I know hating Gibson is trendy, but you're delusional if you think a Navigator is the superior instrument. End of story.

The desirable MIJ explorer is the MX-250II.
>>
>>60720309
I've played one before. 80s model, it was good but basically the same as the Tokai,Burny etc models of that era.

Nice, but it doesn't shit all over the equivalent Gibson. The only truly bad Gibsons are some of the cheap faded models, studios etc..
>>
>>60720324
>you
They're cheaper than MIA stuff and it has good QC, no one is implying anything here.
In fact i've never seen someone say that MIJs are better than MIAs.
Still i'd choose MIJs or even some MIMs because of the price/quality ratio in some specific models.
Also MIAs are made by mexicans who happen to live 50 miles north of Mexico anyway.
>>
>>60720380
Oh and FYI I'm usually a Japan hater, but when it comes to guitars I just have to admit they're outstanding. I hate most stuff coming from Japan, except for some of their tech products. I hate anime, I hate weaboos, I hate most Japanese cars, I hate Ibanez guitars.
>>60720395
You're in denial, man. QC was sloppy at best during the Norlin era. It's the consensus even among Gibson owners.
>>
>>60720380
That wasn't my response.

Norlin wasn't as bad as people pretend it was. The issue was more quality control than anything. Good norlins are fantastic instruments. Like I said, I'm yet to find a bad E2.

>>60720401
There are some shocking Norlin LPs out there, but there are some fantastic examples too.

People like to shit on CBS Fenders as well, but there are great examples of those too.
>>
>>60720286
>CIJ
Wait, what? Did you mean MIC (China, except that's not good quality at all)?
I've never heard that term used before, "CIJ".
>>
>>60720469
Quality is defined by consistency. You can't say you make quality products if 2 out of 5 are lemons. Trust me, I'm an engineer (in the making kek, but I have already studied QC and related stuff).
>>

The micro is obviously a preamp valve in a solid state practice amp.
>>

Crafted in Japan
>>
>>60720497
CIJ = Crafted in Japan
Usually refers to newer models or models made for export IIRC.
Basically the same as MIJ, and maybe from a different factory but that's all.
>>
>>60720467
Denial? No. Did you read any of my posts? The strike out rate for Norlin LPs was anything but good. Most of the explorers are from that era are fine though.

>>60720513
Again, mainly an issue with the LPs from that era. No one denies Norlin was spotty at best, but dismissing all Gibsons over it is equally as stupid.

>>60720514
There are some Fender players who'd try to murder you for that comment.

Either way, it's time to go to work, so I'm out.

What I'm trying to say here is you can't have it all. The pedal is either on or off, and you'd limit your capabilities. Why jump through all these hoops? It's not hard to tune your guitar, and it obviously has purpose. Just because it's possible to approximate the capabilities of an open tuning with standard tuning doesn't mean its worth while. If it's easier to do and better sounding with an open tuning why not do it? I just think it's silly to say open tuning is pointless. Especially when you look at the huge amount of effort it would take to play the songs written for an open tuning in standard.

>>
>>60720852
I think lazy alternative tunings limit your capabilities, because you become better out of need. Besides, I don't play a single genre and I have a strat. That means every time you change your tuning, you need to set it up.

If you're talking about just randomly tuning and strumming things until it work like half of people who use them, I'm with you, but stuff like new standard tuning or even regular open tuning can help you cover more range, which with enough theory and fretboard knowledge, will give you the possibility to do some really cool shit.
Also people don't know how far tuning with some fifths and playing only using tapping can get you far. I love doing that when tuned to CGCBE.

Guys, what the fuck is wrong with this guitar? Someone just gifted it to me, it's a brand new Epiphone SG. It sounds so bland, so lifeless. Also it's basically impossible to tap with it, no attack, no sustain at all. The strings and the cable are fine, I double checked it. Please help!

>Music has no colour
>>
>>60722769

I haven't seen them, but from what I can tell from the settings, they are usually geared for metal isn't it.

I can do metal tones fine, I'm more leaning against on the verge of breakup tones.
>>
>>60722795
Do you have other guitars you can compare it to? Cuz it could be your amp.

I don't think I've ever really had that problem, I'm still pulling riffs out that I came up with years ago. I spent a lot of time teaching myself to remember songs though when I was younger.
>>
>>60722833
Yeah, I have a Gibson that sounds just fine. I'm using a pre-amp + a sound card to play/record, never had any problem with them over the years, it's definitely the guitar. Maybe the humbuckers are low quality?

This could be the reason why you find it lacking. I have a friend who has an Epi and more recently a Gibby and he says the Gibson blows his EMG-equipped Epi out of the water.
>>
>>60722959
Yeah, I'd guess the pickups unfortunately. But try some more aggressive EQ before you get ahead of yourself. Also I don't see how even the crappiest of humbuckers would keep you from tapping. With enough gain you can tap anything. When you say you checked the strings, what do you mean? Are they a decent brand?

Is that a g310? If so, those guitars suck. The g400s are all right, but the pickups that came in mine were awful. They buzzed like crazy and were low output and tinny. Never got a chance to swap them because the head stock broke clean almost perfectly perpendicular and there was no way to clamp it. Watch out for that, if I got another I would carry a stand with me at all times.

I need a bass recommendation

I have a budget of <$800

I play mostly Jazz, Rock and pep band music, no metal or anything like that.

I don't slap very often, so I really would like a dark, purple, and smooth tone in my bass playing.

Should I go with the standard fender P? I've been playing a squire J for a while, but I've had it for 3 years so I'm at a point in my skill level and the squire's lifespan that I really should be looking for a better bass.

So I'm thinking about adding another big tube head to my rig, and theres an ass ton of marshalls on craiglist for good deals. I'm playing mostly doom in the vein of YOB, should I go for the JCM 800, 900, or 2000? I've heard the 900 is the worst of the bunch. Opinions?

a 2203 or 2204 for sure, also mod them to hell and back for tru toan.

Most of them were pretty rank, they had some alright models.

>JCM 2000
A lot of them were fairly mediocre, some of the DSL's were ok, never liked the TSL's, all the modern ones are trash too.

For a YOB sound I'd look into a bassman or Orange OR120, doom for days.

Depending on what you want go for a JCM800 2203, 2204, or a DSL50.

JCM900 aren't really the worst. It's just that every model except the SL-X is meh. The SL-X is great though. It isn't what I'd recommend to you though.

This may sound a little strange but today I started trying to play in the classical position to see if I found it more comfortable. Same, my problem is the upper bout pressing too much on my chest, a real classical guitar probably wouldn't have that problem since it's lighter and also bigger.
>>
>>60727439
Get a Roland Cube, they're about the only thing worth buying in that price range.
>>
>>60727199
You may be raising your fretting arm too high above your chest, which would over-extend your muscles and decrease blood flow to the upper pectoral/shoulder. You could also be tensing up in your chest as your body struggles to accommodate to the new position, resulting in pain after prolonged playing.

Try stretching your arms before sitting down and playing in the classical position, and again after playing. Adopting a new position that is adapted really only specifically for one style of guitar is not as easy nor as intuitive as it may seem.

Too bad so few people get that.
Plus, some aren't even that different to play compared to a regular 6 string, as long as you have proper form.
Except for those with a really longer scale, like schecters, the few I tried felt weird due to that and the fact that the finish on the back of the neck didn't feel as smooth as an Ibanez.
I'd love to try a multiscale though, but they're so expensive.

>GRRRRRRRRRRETINGS! I am Rob Chapman of _CHAPMAN_ guitars and the band Dorje where I am the frontman even though I have a 4 note range and I get announced onto the stage by myself even though my band mates are infinitely better musicians

I found a Karina Strat and a Squier Strat both under $50 on my local auction site. The Karina has a slight chip on the side but no-one seems to be interested in it, but the Squier is pretty popular as it has a few more extra (extra strings, wammy bar etc.) and will probably go for a bit high

I'm pretty poor currently /gg/, which should I go for?
