I saw a guy doing a similar routine with buckets outside the Staples Center after a Clippers match, i wasn't giving him money anyway so i gave him a handful of "free breakfast burger at Carls Jr" coupons i got at the match because the clippers won.
After i walked some steps i could hear that he stopped playing, he got up, grabbed the bunch of coupons from the case you're supposed to throw money at, and he ran and he tried to throw them back to me, he was visibly pissed and his face was bright red.
Made my night desu.

Shortly after he did that the people that was in front of his show thought more or less the same thing, and even some of them explained him that those were coupons for free food, while failing to calm him down, the rest of the audience thought that he was a overreacting fag and walked away, it was hilarious.
>>60703197
>>60703277
street artists are up for what the people feels like giving to them, and that banging buckets thing wasn't that impressive desu.
That's why i felt like giving him coupons, if you get offended by shit like that, you shouldn't be performing in the streets depreciating your "art".

Pretty much this desu >>60703461

>>
>>60705358
actually being a nuanced drummer or playing something interesting is hard but plodding out basic beats is really easy
>>
>>60705358
yes and no
it takes work to get things, but if you start slow and work your way faster enough you'll get things faster until you can basically do whatever you want. that's where it starts to get hard, because you shouldn't just stop learning when you've learned everything you wanted to. you kinda just need to learn every pattern possible in every meter and be able to do it at any tempo.
>>
>>60705358
can you control four limbs and have them do different rhythms at the same time while keeping perfect time at any chosen bpm? then yes it's easy, welcome aboard

Is drumming harder to learn than electric guitar?
Is drumming harder to master than electric guitar?
>>
>>60706642
Good to see people have different opinions.
>>
>>60706561
Bennink is a fucking master, I wish I could have his left hand
>>
>>60706656
I play both

Drumming is easy to get the basics down , it takes real time and dedication to get to a very high standard.

Guitar is like a slow climb up a mountain with no shortcuts

Both are hard to master , but guitar is more pracitcal for practice i guess
>>
Hey does anyone have the video of this exact same drummer, but some guy on the street runs up to him and jumps on his drumkit and kicks it over ?

That shit was fucking hilarious, please show the video again
>>
>>60706690
I would say pretty much all instruments have the same learning curve desu
Like you say, it's easy to to get the basics down for drumming, but I would say a basic 4/4 beat would be pretty much the same as strumming between a G and a C chord
>>
>>60706713
The three things you need to do to master a instrument are practice , practice and practice
>>
Is this thread bait? It has to be bait
>>

Definitely. I've only been able to play my kit at various band practices/shows for over a year now and it sucks because I'm really missing the solo practice. Obviously I can jump on the practice pad in my room but that can only go so far.
Luckily I just found a practice room that does five hours in air con for 50 dollarydoos so I'm keen to get back into a routine

Relevant to thread: Mark Guiliana is my favourite drummer at the moment, he's an incredible improv musician. I know Garstka is super hyped at the moment but I think Guiliana just has an incredible amount of musicianship in his playing

>>
Does anyone know a video where there`s basic but really cool drum rhythms?Because there`s this girl I really like who just started to play the drums a few months ago and I want her to keep playing with me but not only because I think she`s hot but also because she knows how to play some cool basic stuff.anyone?
>>
>post a better [musician on instrument] than this [street musician on makeshift instrument]
Ridiculous question. Folk/makeshift culture is a different category from professional musicianship. You shouldn't compare that to the likes of Neil Peart, Keith Moon, or whoever.

Also I never use the "back to reddit" buzzword but random youtube links of gimmickry and short snippy comments seem to be exactly what is posted there. You are either falling for the drummer's physical appearance or just have bad taste.
>>
>>60706713
>pretty much all instruments have the same learning curve

That's just not true.

>>60706784
His stuff with Phronesis is amazing!

I've heard him with Phronesis, the Avishai Cohen Trio, Brad Mehldau, Tigran Hamasyan, and Heernt, and I loved him in all five - what of his other stuff is in a similar vein? What would you recommend I check out?

Definitely check out the Mark Guiliana Jazz Quartet, their album Family First is one of my favourites for this year. He has a bunch of solo albums too, but they're not really my style.

Other than that, he's in a group called Now vs Now, which is the band he was playing with in the solo I linked. So obviously that would be your first place to go if you liked that solo! He's doing a lot of the glitchy Jojo Mayer-esque drumming on their album Earth Analog
>>
>>60707202
Oh and he is also on the tubs for Bowie's newest single AND the album coming out in January. What a workhorse
>>
>implying there's any drummer better than based Brian Chippendale

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxSi4a0Ygk8
>>
>>60707246
Yeah, I don't think Earth Analog's gonna be up my alley right now, I'm in a big modern-jazz phase, but I still haven't really been sold on that more electronic sound yet.

I'll definitely check out his solo stuff and his quartet some more though. Looking through his Wiki page, he's been in so many bands I've never even heard of, I think I'll just have to work my way through that whole list.

His solo stuff is also mostly the electronic sound from what I can remember, which is unfortunate because I'm in the same boat as you. I always feel like the electronics just sound kitschy.

His quartet should be right up your alley though. Here's a transcription I did for the intro of One Month if you're keen to get it learnt a bit quicker
>>
out of all the buskers I hear in the CBD I think the bucket drummers are the only ones I can enjoy. I think im just a sucker for fast drumming. Its hard to really sound cringeworthy when youre just hitting buckets even though it is a bit wanky.

>>
That video is pretty cool, and it seems that the guy is pretty creative, but there are far better drummers out there.
Chris Cutler, for example, who is capable of playing some of the best complex grooves, yet at the same time he can play some weird sound focused (instead of rhythm focused) drumming.
>>
>>60707519
A smallchestra of 17 year olds who learned fuck-all in the school's music program but had all played instruments of one kind or another for many years.

It actually sounded pretty good for what it was, but what it was wasn't much.
>>
>>60702160
i see this guy in pitt st all the time
>>
>>60702281
That's the whole point. He's being creative. I find it amazing what drummers can play on. They used to have drum offs at my school in the band and it was dope as fuck because they'd just walk away from the kit and start playing on chairs and random as objects.
>>
>>60707557
id imagine itd sound a bit like AMM if they were all drummers
