I love all music but dad rock holds a special place for me because
a) I grew up listening to it with my actual dad
b) Bruce Springsteen resonated with me as a skinny teenage x-county nerd for some reason and
c) now that I'm an adult with a shit ton of outside stresses and responsiblities sometimes it's nice to have a huge genre of familar, chill music to fall back on. I still love putting on a good challenging album but if I'm driving home from work and it's been a long day there's nothing wrong with a little Jackson Brown or Hall & Oates to chill me out.
>>
I was listening to some Cream a couple days ago. Legitimately great band.
>>
I love Boston and Styx. I don't know why, I just do. I have been trying to stop listening to dadrock but I can't. Considering deleting all dadrock so I can stay patrician.
>>
Ewww, fuck no lol
>>
>>60699303

don't change yourself to live up to a bunch of random anon's taste. There's nothing more pleb than hating a band because everyone else does.
>>
Grew up on dadrock, I love it unconditionally.
>>
Petty is based.
>>
>>60699303
>Boston
for somebody who sucks the dick of dadrock, i don't get why people even like Boston, i remember buying their second album, and when i listen to it, i legit forgot i was listing to an album, it's so boring and uninteresting, and looking at there first album, not much diferent

Dadrock super group appreciation.
>>

Boston's basically a one-album band, and even that album is just okay.

I saw them last year and they put on a great show. Petty is cool dude.
>>
>>60699612
are you serious with this post
>>
There is literally nothing wrong with dadrock, anybody who has something against it beyond not enjoying the music is a faggot
>>
does yacht rock count
>>
do groups like black sabbath and the jimi hendrix experience fall underneath the dadrock tag or are they "cool" enough to escape that label
>>
>>60699735
they are most certainly dadrock and there's nothing wrong with that
>>
>>60699373
This
>>
>>60699735
They're dadrock and they are also really good.
>>
>>60699257
I also grew up listening the music my dad used to play in his car. Now i listen even more dadrock than my dad.
>>
>>60699735
they are "dadrock" but that doesn't make them not cool
>>
>tfw my love of music came from my dad sharing his favorite albums with me

>>

>>
>>60699861
I don't like Swans
>>
disturbed is the only dadrock band i like and even then they're pretty shit. i'm glad my dad raised me on good music like Minor threat and The Slits.
>>
I've always thought "dadrock" is a term best applied to somebody's overall taste, not individual artists. Like, if somebody only likes the music that they heard from their dad or classic rock radio, then yeah, that's dumb, but having a genuine appreciation for rock music that happens to be older is perfectly valid.

Take >>60699257, Bruce Springsteen's a great example of what I mean. Something like, say, Born to Run will resonate pretty universally with people for a long time to come, it's not just for aging nostalgic baby boomers.
>>
>>60699844
you probably dont actually listen to weird shit...

>>
My father, in the short period of time we had rogether, showed me lots of cool punk bands like Crass and the Sex Pistols, also the Misfits. I'm sure we would have shared lots of cool music together... Really miss him
>>

I'm interested to hear what your criteria for what is/isn't dadrock, in that case.

This. I've never asked my uncle about Beefheart but he's a huge Zappa fan.
>>
>tfw my dad came home from the record store with Beefheart, Patti Smith, Ted Nugent and The Eagles on the same day
>>
>>60699159
My dad is a 2000s rap fag. not even the kind /mu/tards like, total shit like Styles of Beyond, Techn9ne, and Lupe Fiasco.

Petty is keeping me alive right now, so unless my sperm was donated in my sleep and I have a kid i don't know about he is far from "dadrock" to me.

Listening to Nazareth - No mean City. Typical 70s Heavy Rock, but the vocals are so rough, fucked up and pissed off, I kinda like it. The Track "Claim To Fame" especially-

Just that he was edgier when he was younger and hungrier. Asbury Park, Born To Run, and Darkness are all pretty solid, The River has some great standout tracks and Nebraska is near mythic. After USA, his age and the devils of superstardom made his work much more AOR and radio friendly, therefore to me, much more dadrockesque, The Ghost Of Tom Joad notwithstanding. I always conceptualized dadrock to mean just that, songs for and about older men. By this criteria, Zeppelin will never be dadrock, nor will Sabbath. The Eagles are dadrock because they never shut up and went away, witness the mostly embarrassing solo careers of Don Henley and Glenn Frey. Petty is not dadrock because he was never a cool kid so he can't be a cool dad. The Stones aren't dadrock unless you're a sixty year old moron shilling out two grand for floor seats to their yearly tour, then they become the de facto kings of dadrock. Context is clearly everything in this emerging genre. Be happy to answer any further questions you might have about it.

Also, Sabrina, don't just stare at her ass, eat it.
