albums that are actually little known in contrast to having outstanding critical reception/being an influence on better known musicians
let's see how many jewels we dig out /mu/
avoid:
>i like it and others don't so it's underrated
>[widely known infamous album] is actually criminally underrated! i said it first! (on an anonymous imageboard) (mainly focused on anime and otaku culture)

this reminds me of the beatles
>>60693754
admittedly i have seen them on /mu/ a few times, but still. same goes for brainiac in noise rock, surprisingly underappreciated for a board that jerks off big black and albini

forgot pic
this is one of the best, if not THE best, dream pop albums released in the past 10 years. it sounds like stereolab meets the cocteau twins in the millenial era. it got good reviews when it came out, but it seems to be mostly forgotten now... yet everyone is jerking off over boring shit like diiv and beach house. what happened?

this 2000 album is credited mainly by "indie" fans (p4k gave its 2014 reissue a 9.1/10) as an underrated gem, originally a collection of singles by london band the clientele, it knew limited success (mostly in the US indie scene). now the band has disbanded and despite excellent criticism and the raise in popularity of indie rock, it remains little known to the mainstream.

what is this tripfriend?

agreed, don't know about brainica though.
>>60693968
is this in contrast with time out, or are you suggesting that the dave brubeck quartet is in any way an underrated band?

what's this?

Honestly, Mac DeMarco's playing is closer to The Clientele than anything else. The sound those guys achieved 10+ years ago is THE sound of indie guitar music today.

love mahogany
love diiv
and I do love you anon, through the thick and thin

>Mac DeMarco's playing is closer to The Clientele than anything else
I wouldn't go as far as to say this but it's true that they nailed the sound that would become hip and trendy 4 or 5 years later

>4 or 5 years later
actually seeing how Suburban Light is a collection of singles from the late 90s, they were pretty much doing indie when grunge was still cool
