Nah fuck you dude. This particular BSC album is one of the best melodeath albums of the past couple years. It's okay to like stuff that's got a girl singing and crossdressing VK guitarists and isn't totally brrroootle all the time. No one will judge you.

I never saw it as about that. It's about the juxtaposition of trance with metal drumming and harsh vocals. That said, there may not be a lot of solos but there are guitars all over the album. And it totally is melodeath. Just not muh pure scandinavian pedal note riffs and maidenesque harmonies melodeath.

This literally describes the vast majority of most Thrash and Tech Death metal. Which is the reason why I don't like a lot of the popular bands of those genres.

But besides that, what are "filler" chords? What's the difference between harmony composition qualifies as filler and its other counterparts?

I've also heard plenty of atmospheric melody with legitimately colorful melodic aspects. Pic related.

Riffs is a repetitious line or lines of music, put together to make a song. Riffs can create atmosphere. Atmo is akin to the shit right before someone dies in a horror movie. It lets you know spoopy is about to happen, but doesn't have any riffs. Metal needs riffs. Atmo needs the metal title so the weirdos that listen to only that don't feel like they're autistic.

>>
>>60691466
I think the main conflicting opinion comes from the fact that there is nothing "metal" about the atmo shit. No crunchy riffs, no solos.. nothing even remotely close to anything ever considered metal since metal started in the 70s. A lot of it I'd compare to be more like some kind of classical music written for ambiance found in silent movies from the 20s. Not something evolved from riff oriented "rock" music from the 50s and so on
>>

>>
>>60691932
>I can't listen to atmoshit because it's completely emotionless to me,

Because you don't interpret emotion from chords and melody alone. You need them to have some sort of 'catchy' phrase.

Which is fine with me... I personally disagree: I'll just listen to a chord progression for the sack of it.

Doom metal I have no problem with, because most of the time it still has great riffs, and if not, then the chord progressions usually make up for it, from what I've listened to so far, doom metal usually tends to have the best chord progressions if the riffs are not there, now ulcerate I dislike a lot, mainly because again, the chord progressions are fone to death, and though the riffs aren't really supposed to be catchy, they're just not interesting in the slightest , some people say ad nauseam is heavily inspired by them, but I dont think so tb.h, they have loads of solid riffs and interesting moments and songwriting ideas, also with doom metal, I don't really get immersed that much with the chord progressions, they just sound cool most of the time

Yep I've checked him out, also tony macalpine and luca turilli right now.

It's hard to find more recent stuff, most newer guitar wankers just default into more prog oriented stuff which isn't what I'm looking for. I also want to stay away from instrumental stuff cause they tend to get boring.

I love both albums, but /metal/ is shit when it's just namedropping the same goddamn stuff ad nauseam. (including Ad Nauseam)

I can see why lots of people from /nbbmn/ don't want to return to these threads, they're not nearly as good as they used to be and I don't know what to do to improve them. Especially when we have pople who'll get in long arguments like earlier ITT... Soreption Guy is a dork, yeah, and his reasons for disliking Ulcerate and DSO are pulled out of his ass (he likely doesn't want to give them a chance because he associates them with the dreaded ~atmoshit~) but getting in an exchange of insults with him isn't very productive. I created these generals to expose people to underrated and obscure music and that's... not what they're doing anymore.

The mozart piece has simple melodies and harmonies. You can say that it has more complex harmony than most metal which is true, but also a moot point since metal bands have much, much less defined pitch instruments to begin with. In terms of form, plenty of metal (and other genres in general) is more complex than short dances or other chamber music and likewise has more complex melodies.

Sure nobody is going to touching Ives or Debussy anytime soon, but there's plenty of simple classical as well.

ok, so why doesn't what i said count as form? take something like one of the more complicated songs from deicide's legion (an album i happen to enjoy a lot btw). the structure isn't verse/chorus, it's not 'ABA', but it's complicated only on the merits of the individual riffs being structured in a less regular way. it's complicated in a metal sense, it's nothing compared to classical.

This isn't really complicated at all. There's an intro section that lasts for like 10 seconds. Then the next section goes until 2:05. And the last section goes out into the end. If you're really generous, you could call it through-composed, but it's probably too repetitive for that.
