I don't value technical efficiency. You just need to be good enough for the piece. And I feel some pieces do need to be fairly complex and, for lack of a better word, "wanky". Not all of them, and a lot are just fluff, but I don't that just because you are a virtuoso that chooses to use that copious talent on occasion it automatically means your music is bad.
