my story sounds eerily similar to >>60666159 's. except i eventually realized the endless cycle and at that point i had tried every imaginable way of quitting by myself- from opiate substitutes, switching substances, going cold turkey, tapering down, and medicine/psychiatry.
absolutely nothing worked for me for any substantial amount of time until i found AA. and even in those periods of sobriety before, even though i was physically abstinent from drugs and alcohol i was still fucking miserable up in my own head.
