Embarrassing.

But some albums have absolutely horrible songs that don't even belong in them

Ahahaha holy shit, why would I EVER pay for music in this day and age? Especially for albums that I don't even like all the way through. Music is nothing more than a hobby, I can pick and choose what I like regardless of the artist's intention. Honestly artists should pay me to even listen to their albums.

The only album I have ever done this for is clipping. - CLPPNG, for the song Tonight, because it's a completely unredeemable track.

Otherwise, I will occasionally grab one song and one song alone from an artists discography if I really enjoy it but not the rest of their output.

The only album that fits that category for me is Close to the Edge. some Hendrix stuff, Exuma, Weezer Blue Album, Electric Mud, and 36 chambers are almost there but theres a track I dont "love" or even "like" on each of them.

evolution:
1.)babby: singles! i love this song! i love this song too! i love songs! i listen to songs on repeat!
2.)pre-teen/teen: bands! i love this band! this is my favorite band in the world! i will love them forever! i listen to them on repeat!
3.)teen/mid-20s: albums! have you heard this album? oh man what about this album? this is a great album. i listen to them from beginning to end, like the artist intended. skip this song? are you fucking kidding? without the lows, the highs wouldn't be as high!

(the next stage, one of three things happens.)
a.)lose interest in music. grow up. job, maybe wife, kids (lol). new hobbies. listen to whatever's on the radio, commercials, and superbowl halftime show.
b.)autism intensifies. have 2,000 krautrock/prog records. (or insert a genre if this bothers you).
c.)mix of a. and b. love music, still follow music, but it is not sacred, artists are not infallible, and your time on earth is limited, and 92%% of songs recorded on this planet are shitty.

most kids discover this board at step 2. and the "oldfags" who have been here for 6 months (or maybe even few years) are at step 3. they still remember being at 1 and 2, feel enlightened, and feel the need to differentiate themselves from plebs. revering albums is a defense mechanism in a way.

i'm at 4c niggas, have a nice night.

They're fucking hopeless at sequencing an album on their own, they need a proper producer

Why listen to an album If I don't like every song, when there's hundreds of albums I could listen to where I like the entire thing
>>

Because discounting an entire album due to one bad song is idiotic
>>
>>60618003
Most albums don't have all good songs and it doesn't matter.
People put songs in albums to sell, no one in their right mind would spend money on like 3 minutes of music. There is no reason to listen to albums all the time.

>>60618043
>people pay 99 cents a song all the time

Albums as a sales format is no longer a thing with the internet. I can assure you the average top 40 listener doesn't buy albums. If they buy anything at all they'll buy the songs they like from an album. The point of an album is for a cohesive piece of music and>>60618039

>Implying only rock artists make albums that are cohesive, conceptual works
k e k

Not only are almost all of the biggest landmark releases in hip-hop albums (exceptions, like "Planet Rock" exist, in which the reputation of the song exceeds the album itself, but it's few and far between), many jazz records are united, whole statements as well. And honestly, the list of genres could go on and on. Don't pretend that the album being a complete statement is only limited to rock.

Yeah, it's a made up word coined by NME in 80s to shit on fans of bands they didn't like (ironically, they're quite the rockist publication these days). Recently, it's been revived by RYMers and their ilk as a way to shit on fans of bands they don't like.
>>
Every once in a while I'll skip tracks here and there, but mostly I'll just start from the track I want to here and then have the record loop around for the full listen. Making your music so subjective that you can't remove yourself and appreciate the art for what it is is sad desu.
>>
Listening to single songs feels like cheating desu. I didn't listen up to it. I don't deserve to be here. So I just feel guilty instead of enjoying the song. If I want to listen to a song off of an album I probably like the whole album so why not just listen to the whole thing. I guess if you have things to do and have a busy schedule it's a bit different
>>
Do I really have to listen to the whole album?
>>
I do this for pop albums and deluxe editions. For pop albums there are usually a couple hit tracks with a few halfhearted snooze songs tacked on. I don't see the point in listening to filler music if I only buy the album for a few well produced songs but by shit artists.
