The only album I have ever done this for is clipping. - CLPPNG, for the song Tonight, because it's a completely unredeemable track.
Otherwise, I will occasionally grab one song and one song alone from an artists discography if I really enjoy it but not the rest of their output.

Not only are almost all of the biggest landmark releases in hip-hop albums (exceptions, like "Planet Rock" exist, in which the reputation of the song exceeds the album itself, but it's few and far between), many jazz records are united, whole statements as well. And honestly, the list of genres could go on and on. Don't pretend that the album being a complete statement is only limited to rock.

Yeah, it's a made up word coined by NME in 80s to shit on fans of bands they didn't like (ironically, they're quite the rockist publication these days). Recently, it's been revived by RYMers and their ilk as a way to shit on fans of bands they don't like.
Every once in a while I'll skip tracks here and there, but mostly I'll just start from the track I want to here and then have the record loop around for the full listen. Making your music so subjective that you can't remove yourself and appreciate the art for what it is is sad desu.
Listening to single songs feels like cheating desu. I didn't listen up to it. I don't deserve to be here. So I just feel guilty instead of enjoying the song. If I want to listen to a song off of an album I probably like the whole album so why not just listen to the whole thing. I guess if you have things to do and have a busy schedule it's a bit different

I do this for pop albums and deluxe editions. For pop albums there are usually a couple hit tracks with a few halfhearted snooze songs tacked on. I don't see the point in listening to filler music if I only buy the album for a few well produced songs but by shit artists.
