Is this the best classic prog album?
>>
>>60610721
Terrible compared to stuff like Gentle giant Cardiacs and Magma
>>
>>60610721
Yes
Or at least the best Genesis album
Speaking for myself
>>
I want to say Foxtrot, but only because Supper's Ready is the greatest prog song of all time.
>>
>>60610721
I'd say so
Sure some others have more immediate entertainment value (Fragile, ELP) but when it comes down to it SEbtP is a complete masterpiece that's a complete ascension beyond any value that music commonly holds
>>
>>60611606
Who does Supper's Ready more justice?
Phil or Peter?
Live or studio?

no, that would be pic related
>>60611606
Other than Close to the Edge, You and I, and Larks Tongue in Aspic part 1 AND 2.
>>
>>60611663
As much as I love Phil, and I think he's a better singer than Peter, Gabriel just has the right Englishness about him to pull off Supper's Ready. The version on Seconds Out where Phil sings it is not as good.
>>
>>60611663
Seconds Out version for the win. Even though I prefer Peter.
>>
>>60611734
I personally like the studio version the best
Steve fucking owns it and Phil was only 19 when he recorded that.Still blows my mind.
>>
>>60611711
LTiA is it you were close
>>
>>60610721
ITCOTCK, Dark Side of the Moon, and Thick as a Brick are all better. That one is close, though.

>>60611606
This one too.
>>
>>60611606
>>60611711
Some other epics for the list:
Illusions on a Double Dimple by Triumvirat
Lady Fantasy by Camel
Symphony No. 2 by Egg
>>
>>60611774
At that time Genesis practiced religiously, like 14 hours a day. Phil Collins is soo underrated as a drummer. Just check out Brand X if anyone needs verification of his talent.
>>
this
>>
>>60611832
I own all the Brand X records
Phil is legend

>Bruford
>Wetton
>Jobson

The most overlooked of the classic prog bands.

Why wouldn't it?

>>
>>60611823
First Utterance - Comus
Pictures at an Exhibition - ELP (Fuck tarkus though, that album sucks)

>>
>All these great albums
Was the 70s progressive scene truly the greatest era?
>>
>>60612149
I agree on First Utterance. Diana and The Prisoner are 10/10 songs.
>>
>>60612215
its certainly my favorite but lets not get ahead of ourselves
>>
>>60612215
70s were the best decade overall imo

70s > 60s > 90s > 80s > 50s > 00s > 10s desu

Might as well throw some more in there
Enigmatic Ocean - Jean-Luc Ponty
Song to the Pharoah Kings - Return to Forever
Hymn to Him - Mahavishnu Orchestra
L'Evoluzione - Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso
Mystical Adventures - Jean-Luc Ponty
The Struggle of the Turtle to the Sea - Jean-Luc Ponty

>>
>>60612215
It seems like it if you just look at this thread, but think about all the absolute garbage prog that isn't in this thread.
>>
>>60612298
Gryphon-Red Queen to Gryphon Free
Ommadawn (and tubular bells for that matter) - Mike Oldfield
Romantic Warrior-Return to Forever
Gong-Camembert Electrique
Birds of Fire- Mahavishnu orchestra
(fusion counts right?)
>>
>>60612364
Like Tarkus?
>>
>>60611977
mah negro

I've decided Danger Money isn't as terrible as people say it is
>>
>>60612327
the highs on still life are higher (stacked sax pilgrims outro, pretty much all of childhood's end), but godbluff is just more consistently great imo. full steam ahead the whole goddamn time.
>>
>>60612407
I actually like Danger Money better. Bozzio is a great drummer and Carrying No Cross is a masterpiece.

Does this count as prog?
>>
>>60612364
True enough, but every era and scene has its share of shit. This one just has so many classics and so many greats, a lot more than others.
>>
>>60612561
It's probably because it's older than most rock scenes. Thirty years from now, people will be talking about the 90s like it was the greatest decade.
>>
>>60612630
Fair enough. As of now, the shit from the 90s sticks out too much for it to be heralded. You really could make this kind of thread for any decade or scene.
