For me It's Soundtracks For the Blind, I love the atmosphere and it's the only album I've ever cried to
It's a very interesting sound art experiment. The live shows themselves, although probably an experience in their own right, would have sounded nothing like this album. What makes this album interesting is, due to the volume of performance and questionable recording equipment, that there are sounds and distortions created that would have been otherwise impossible to create at a listenable volume.
Very interesting, and personally, I find it to be beautiful.

The best live album ever imo. Feel Happiness and I Crawled are my favorite Swans tracks.

The Great Annihilator cause I like that straight forward post-punk / gothic rock style they had in the 90's.
Only listened to Filth so far, but I might give To Be Kind or Holy Money a listen.

I like the memedog album the best (SFTB comes second).
Why? Gira has been saying for past 5-10 years that he wants to make albums that feel like a movie. The Seer manages that perfectly. Lunacy is a perfect opener, it sets the mood immediately: its groovy, dark, ritualistic. The chants and incantations are haunting, I love their sound and instrumentation on this album (hammer dulcimers, so good). Mother of the World, The Seer, Avatar, Apostate are beasts amongst Swans tracks, each achieving blissful annihilation through a different way. The little folky tracks (and 93 Ave) are perfect atmosphere builders and really make the album feel cohesive, coherent and "complete." It feels ancient, mythological, not like a conventional rock album at all. I like the lyrics, obviously. Also it features one of the craziest vocal performances by Gira (Apostate). I can't say enough about how much I love this record. In every way its perfect.

children of god got me into swans. i have some sort of personal attachment to white light, it gives me feels. the great annihilator is perfect and i love that style. and i think their best is soundtracks which i really enjoy, it's an experience. i like their other albums too, all their music is intense and i love it. but those are my favorites.i can't just pick one

It's Filth, because I love the fact it sounds like they tried to make every instrument sound like it was dying, plus the hardness is so easy to get lost in.

Soundtracks will always be my favourite Swans album. After trying unsuccessfully to get into Filth and White Light, I gave up on the band until I saw a copy of Soundtracks at a garage sale. I figured I'd give them one last try. Having just discovered post-rock at the time, I was instantly hooked, and reaching Helpless Child showed me how effectively lyrics can be used in a predominately instrumental genre. It remains to this day one of my all-time favourite songs.
I've since explored the rest of their discography and grown to love the likes of Holy Money and Children of God, but I'll never understand why Filth is praised as highly as it is.
