Never listened to Zappa before aside from We're Only In It For The Money one time years ago. I listened to pic related today and thought it was really good, why do people dislike it?

I never knew people disliked it. I think it is a great sample of some different styles Zappa did.

from what I heard a lot of people like it and a lot of people don't

I guess cult bf is the term for me.

Joe's Garage is alright by me but on Zappa in general, his silliness and cheese can get tiresome. The band plays corny as shit. He is very 'musical' but never really put out anything more extreme than dad fusion music

>dad fusion music
shut the fuck up absolute idiot

Prove me wrong

I only like early zappa, as time went on his act became corny wannabe comedian stuff. 'We're only it for the money' was way ahead of its time for example

There's enough serious music in the world senpai

An excellent mix of his pop sensibilities with his fusion and jam side. Probably one of the better starting points to Zappa, IMO

As a moderate detractor of Joe's Garage, my main gripes are that (1) it's an Ike Willis-heavy album and he's a pretty boring, one-trick vocalist to me. Not that Zappa was a gifted singer but he brought more character to his own songs, and Ray Collins/Flo & Eddie/Napoleon Murphy Brock at least sounded vital, and (2) I find the production very hollow, a little too slick in places.

With that said, it has a dearth of great material, variation, and showcases for Zappa's guitar.
