The Kooks have a few good ones too.

These are alright
>>60546435
Love Glass Animals
>>60546618
Kooks are on the mediocre side
But yeah I dig all that alternative/indie stuff that the SiriusXM stations love. JR JR are my current favorite.
is this... is this real, or?
>>60546904
sasha?
>>60546949
Nope
>>60546904
How do you feel about more popular acts like Alt-J and Milky Chance?
>>60546921
I take it you didn't like the music?
>>60547006
They're all totally hit or miss. Alt-J is slightly more tolerable than Milky Chance, but still pretty bad. Milky Chance is completely abysmal.
>>60546949
Leo?
>>60547074
Donna?
>>60547069
Alt-J and Milky Chance are both hit-or-miss artists for me. All of their good songs seem to be the ones played on the radio and there doesn't seem to be anything notable past that.

Not the most original, but the hooks and the melodies are spot on. Plus they're fun as fuck live.
>>60547111
Nope.
Alternative is not a fucking genre you guys, jesus
>>60547138
I'll see your coin and raise you a Saint Motel.

>>60547152
Nope, it's a community of artists associated with each other. It's kind of a super-genre that holds a bunch of artists, each with their own influences. Kind of like hip hop, where the production style can widely vary.
>hey guys lets call ourselves an alt rock band but make terrible white boy r&b
This is what is wrong with modern mainstream rock, afraid to actually rock, nothing but soft rock and imposters
>>60547214
>They're making things that I don't like!
Thanks for the bump anyways bruh
>>60547177
I don't give a shit how much My Type was completely overplayed. It's a fucking jam and pretty much everything else they have is a jam too. Puzzle Pieces is the best.
What about JR JR?

>>60547267
no, i dont care what they make, just dont call yourself rock if you make fucking waterd down the weeknd drake tier faggotry
>>60547274
Are you familiar with the radio station 96.5 The Buzz in Kansas City, Missouri? They were the first station in the US to start playing Alt-J, Glass Animals, etc. and they're responsible for the success of a lot of these bands. They host their annual Buzz Beach Ball music festival to showcase the artists that they've "broken" to the mainstream.
965thebuzz.com
And yeah, JR JR is dope.
>>60546655
Is he considered alternative? I know nothing about music but I heard this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVk2DLAGdEg on the radio and really liked it, assumed it was normal pop, if there is such a thing.
>>60547369
He's pretty poppy in his sound but definitely not played enough to be considered pop.
His live shows are fucking amazing. He does a huge musical improv thing and basically makes songs in front of the audience.
alternative = boring "indie" bland pop music?
that's the way i feel about his, can you give something better?
>>60547422
Did you even listen to the music?
>>60547368
Not at all, I'm from the Detroit area, but I'll be sure to check it out. That's very interesting, I always considered satellite radio to be the main hub for these bands to breakthrough.
JR JR is a Detroit band, and there's actually a really substantial music scene that's been brewing in the city over the past three years. I've really been pushing for this band called Flint Eastwood to get picked up by bigger radio stations. They just put out an EP last month and it's one of the best things I've heard this whole decade so far. It's like pop with a spaghetti-western twist, but it's done in a really tasteful way. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did.

Cotton eyed joe shit? Hardly
>>60546435
Glass Animals are my shit, check out Youth Lagoon and Sylvan Esso
>>60547570
he's wrong, the buzz used to be this but they got stale. now it's more focused on 90.9 The Bridge in kc and 90.7 KJHK in lawrence KS.
>>60546435
Alternative what? That's such a fucking broad term you might as well just have a music general. All of the indie artists that /mu/ discusses that make up the majority of the boards discussion are already "alternative", why does this thread even exist?
>>60547620
>viral marketers
there's that word again
>>60547479
ufff... no man, i don't
>>60547843
Well since you're bumping the thread I can't be rude and refuse to answer your question now can I. I was referring to the indie rock scene as one may be able to gather through context since I posted a bunch of fucking bands in that genre (Alt-J, Glass Animals, Chet Faker). The type of music that alternative radio stations play is the music we are discussing in this thread. Any more questions, anon?
