It really must be shitty listening exclusively to /mu/core. You'll grow up eventually though.

Every faggot and his mother wants to be a lead guitarist. Bass is the most patrician instrument in the band
>>
>>60512150
>being sub 6'0
must be fun not ever getting laid
>>
>>60512149
yeah, but this one's better

Syd >>>>> Waters > Gilmour
>>
>>60512157
It is. Almost every good songwriter was a bassist, as were most good band leaders.

Several unique and influential musical personalities were as well - think Charles Mingus - who pushed the boundaries of the genres they played in. There's a reason bass frequencies are a necessity in high quality, influential music.

Not saying other instruments aren't valuable either. It's just the bassist is often overlooked by people who don't understand music, music theory, or have any motivation beyond image.

Absolutely. Bass is the instrument that people in the audience who don't really know much about music don't really pay attention to, unless there's a really catchy riff. No one wants to play it because it doesn't get any attention, but a good bass player is worth his weight in gold.

For real tho
>>
>>60512123
nah dude. bill berry was the best member of rem.
>>
>>60512502
not true. His playing got old for me real fast. I really dont like his tone most of the time either. I guess it fits the music though. Frusciante's solo work > RHCP by a lot btw

>>60512557

>more talented than the rest of the band

You wish, John was the only talented person in that band.

My pick is Les Claypool, can you even name another member in Primus.

Have you heard any of Flea's solo work? He's a great musician.
Agreed Frusciante's stuff is preddy gud as well, but I just prefer this guy.
>>
>>60512191

True enough. Bass ties together the music, just listen to any Bowie song the bass is always loud and proud.
>>
>>60512579
larry lalonde is talented
>>
>>60512838
Hell yea he is. Took lessons with Satch, I think.
Brain, Tim Alexander, and Jay Lane all also wicked deft.
>>
>>60512598

He's a good player for sure. Check out this stage full of bass players riffing on School Days with Stanley Clarke. They all take a solo but Flea played the tastiest and most musical of all where everyone else had a big wank. Flea starts about the 3m mark but worth watching the lot.

Without John, definitely.
