I always wondered why people dismiss this guy's music as being pointless wank, to me it always sounded very interesting, far more interesting than most of the music discussed on here anyway.

As compared to EVH, who, for sake of comparison, 1) believed in the power of a band 2) made sure he put almost all of his playing in the context of rhythm guitar or as part of a larger stable piece, usually with the band (or like Cathedral).
he also doesn't space his stuff out well and looks like he's trying cram as much as he can into things
