I agree that mainstream music has hit an all time low but there was a lot of awful mainstream music in the past. The 60s was the peak of mainstream music, the 70s had some great mainstream music but it also had a lot of soft rock dreck and third rate hard rock, besides new wave and synthpop 80s mainstream music was pretty fucking terrible, the alternative rock explosion of the early 90s was great but in the mid to late 90s post-grunge, nu metal, pop punk and other awful shit dominated the mainstream.
