Diversity =/= good. Dubstep is no way the peak popularity it had around the mid 00s back when you would get a constant release of bangers before the brostep rot started setting in. Now you might get the odd good release of Deep Medi or Innamind or System or Tempa but they are few and far between and most producers have moved on to other, shittier genres.
As for Grime, it categorically hasn't been good 07. It had an interesting year in 2014 when there was a lot of really nice instrumentals but already that momentum hasn't carried on. On the other hand, MCing has never gotten back to the heights it had during the early days.

I doesn't listen to grime and the few times I've searched for some have been unfruitful. but I think the whole bass music scene (meaning grime/dubstep/wonky/garage etc) form a nice whole that has brought lot of freshness over the years, particularly the destructured rhythm and garage-y syncopation that really took seats into techno since circa 2010.
of course it doesn't escape the rule of the 90 % being fodder, just like any other genre, but IMO grime, for example, is more interesting than techno or house because it's more diverse as a genre and there isn't as much people doing it. I mean to me (probably because I make music) a shit bass record will be more interesting to listen than a shit techno record.

I don't know, I remember when Footwork was touted as the next thing but I don't know if anyone can say it is or isn't the current main trend.
I do like the 130-140bpm stuff that Keysound and the rest put out, but not as much as the kind of Dubstep and Grime which predated it.
