It's a great record. It takes a lot of influence from past dreamy psych but still does a good job of having its own unique sound from the 60s.
Nobody actually hypes it, it's just an album a lot of people enjoy so you get a larger vocal fan base.
Currents went in a different direction, and honestly I think comparing currents to lonerism is apples and oranges, since Currents discards a lot of the psych influences in favor of more of a dream pop influence.

Why would you like Temples over this? I think Sun Structures is ok, but their mission statement was to emulate a very specific sound from the 60's. Lonerism is at least a composite of some 60's psych, Rundgren's A Wizard, a True Star, and some vague EDM influence as far as I can tell. Just wondering

this album is appealing to people who like sound design, and textures, vibe, etc.
yeah, it sounds psych but without being pretentious, there is more depth and work behind the music than you realize.
the only bad song in lonerism is the closer and its quite ok tbqh.
get your head out of your ass please, Currents was the result of Kevin realizing the music industry is shit and his effort wasn't that big on the album, hence the last song again, explicit proof of his lack of interest on make real music again.
Tame impala is one of the only truly good bands out there or at least was from 2010 to 2013.
if you see tame impala as less than an amazing memorable act, the only explanation is that you didn't live the release of their first two albums, and you are just trying to be edgy and contrarian.
