Dysphoria is a mental illness recognized even by transexuals, whether you believe in the mutability of gender identity or not.
To compound the irony, the lead singer of Against Me! would arguably not count regarding OP's intention vis a vis homosexuality being considered a mental illness, as they are romantically involved with a woman, and were before transition; so unless OP is willing to cede that transition did in fact change Grace's gender, they have to accept that Grace is in fact, not a homosexual, as by their logic Grace is a man in a relationship with a woman.
