Pic is my current guitar. 1972 SG II. Beat to shit, only one pic up works, the previous owner replaced the originals with some cheap shitty ones anyway. Need to replace the Bridge with a wrap over tune-o-matic for stability and use ability.
My amp is a Tiny Terror, best investment I ever made gear wise.

I've been playing about 10 years, started to go down hill a bit recently because I've not had enough time. But I'm trying to get a three piece hardcore band together. Found a drummer and a bassist who are both up for it.

Sup.
>>
>>60274102
A few years ago I was after one of those. They're usable, but the "tone-wicker" is basically a bright switch as far as I can tell. If you got a good deal and didn't buy new, then yeah why not.

Why is there so much hate on Rob Chapman here?
Also are his guitars any good?
>>
>>60274275
Because he's popular. I remember when he first started out. He's just a guy.
>>
>>60274102
I fucking hate them myself, but I guess that's just a taste thing; lots of people love them.

TS808 all the way for me.
>>
>>60274275
>Why is there so much hate on Rob Chapman here?
Envy mainly, he was a usual dude that started a guitar company, 90% people here would love that too.
>Also are his guitars any good?
They are okay, but overpriced as hell
>>
>>60274275
He made a documentary about his own band. His band made their own masterclass of learning how to sound like them. I mean, he's not a horrible guitarist, he just isn't that great and his style is pretty limited. What makes Chapman annoying is his ego. He THINKS he is amazing.
>>
>>60274212
Are you sure those pickups are replaced? They sure look original to me.

The SGII had black plastic covered mini HBs and a stoptail bridge just like yours does. I'd take it to a repair guy to get it looked at before you go about modding it. It could be something as simple as a switch that has gone bad.
>>
I like playing guitar, but just practicing scales is boring and I'm too shit to play the songs I like. I have no motivation to practice, half the time.
>>
>>60274494
Learn the songs you like, slowly, step by step, start really slow, and then build up the speed. It's not that hard
>>
>>60274413
I'm 90% sure the it's the switch that went actually. And yeah, the wiring inside is dodgy enough to make me think that they might be replaced.

I did have it looked over by a repair guy as well, but I've been too busy to take it in and get it really sorted.
>>
>>60274494
I taught my self guitar by just having it on my lap all the time when I was doing other shit.

On the computer? Guitar on my lap.
Eating dinner? Guitar on my lap.
Playing vidja? Guitar on my lap.

Just make it inevitable.

Download rocksmith 2014 and buy a rocksmith cable. its a fun way to learn guitar. its not the best way... but sure is fun. once you can play a little switch to a more serious way of leaning.
also rocksmith has some "fun" mini-games for scales and such.
>>
>>60274620
sorry for that pick. it wasn't supposed to upload.
On a side note. i will be picking up that guitar tomorrow, my 2nd. cant wait.
>>
If I'm fed up of hearing one thing its that people "lack motivation". Fuck your motivation, just do it. If you force yourself to do it for 10 minutes you'll probably find yourself doing it for 20/30 minutes and enjoying it.

Just make doing SOMETHING towards your goals an unavoidable part of your life.
>>
>>60274275
Chapman's just a regular guy who has a decent gig at Anderton's. He managed to become popular enough that Anderton's decided to start a guitar line with his name on it. Despite all that, he's just a regular guy with regular guy-level flaws, most notoriously a lack of ability to take criticism from anonymous people on the Internet.
This rubbed at least one anon here the wrong way, and it resulted in lots of people openly hating him here.

As for the guitars, they're quality. They're made by World Guitar Company in South Korea, the same plant that made all the MIK Epiphones for Gibson and a bunch of overseas models for lots of other makers. About the only thing that's strange about them is the specs, but that's on Chapman and not the makers.

Make up your own songs. Every time you pick up the guitar look for a new lick. I also get bored when I spend a lot of time on scales, so I switch back to making music and the enjoyment comes back. Strike a balance between technique and creativity.

Joining the body at the 13th fret probably gives off more sustain. I'm guessing you can also rest your hand on the "horn" when tapping.
Also it doesn't hinder upper fret access, there's been basses with this shape for years now.
>>
>>60275812
I know like, one scale. I've just decided to learn the standard stuff like Johnny B Goode so I can still raise my finger dexterity and not bore myself to death.

I was jamming with my dad (He was on the bass) yesterday and for the second time, I noticed how the bass amp destroyed my Marshall, so, I thought a bit about it. Seems like having it with the rear against the wall wasn't a great idea and rearranged everything in this way, sound really improved on the lower and and it definitely sounds bigger now. Silly me.

When I heard about counterfeit Gibsons and Fenders, I started to worry about being taken in by a fake Jackson. LEL, it doesn't look likely to happen any time soon.
>>
>>60277902

Huh, like a fat Strat basically, and that's what it is. Twangy but with plenty of lower end due to the pickups, that btw, are single coils (SD Phat Cat).

I don't use it tho since it doesn't sound good with the Marshall, neither with the things I play. I want to try it with a Fender amp or something more vintage and see how does that work. That P-Bass is great, lots of different sounds and really comfy.

...And 9/10 guitarists in the world have bad form. Your teacher is right to fuss at you about it, because you're building habits right now. He wants you to build GOOD habits, so everything else becomes easier.
You can't progress beyond a certain point if you don't have good form. Learn good form now and the rest of the time playing guitar gets to be the fun stuff. Don't learn good form and it all becomes work on improving your form to overcome the problems your shitty form gets you into.

that guitar is fucking horrible m8, you won't last 2 weeks playing on that thing and I guarantee the amp is going to be so useless you'll never want to take the trouble to actually hook all of your shit up and play out loud.

Buying the cheapest starter pack possible is SETTING YOURSELF UP TO FAIL. You're admitting that you're approaching your new hobby with the intention of quitting (minimizing your loss by getting a shit instrument)

Save up $300 up a nice beginner guitar like an Epiphone LP or a used Fender mim strat that will hold all resale value if you decide to quit.

Definitely look into some second hand gear mate, first hand is usually a rip off. You can probably save £100 second hand.

As for pedals with the other cash, Try to find a second hand Devi Ever Hyperion or something similar. Something that's harsher than a Muff, but less than £100
>>
>>60277008
If you can get something like a monthly payment setup I would try looking at the more expensive basses. There is nothing worse than buying a low end bass and not wanting to play it because you don't like it.
I bought a Fender American Standard Jazz Bass as my first a couple months ago and I can't put it down. Even though I'm paying it off for a year, it was worth it. No interest either.

>>60279202
i think you might be surprised, lugging around a 4x12 is a pain. If youre not playing shows too often a 2x12 is more reasonable to sit in a room. If you get out and do a show that doesnt have a PA system, and you REALLY need more volume, you can always buy a second one or get/make a device that angles your cab upwards.

All that being said, youre playing through a tiny terror in the end and will likely rely on a PA system micing up your cab to get your volume to suitable levels, a 412 cab wont help atall in that situation, but dont get me wrong, 412s do look pretty cool.

And im pretty sure the older the marshall cab the more desirable it will be, as long as it works corrrectly.
>>
>>60279317
>>60279202

Also, just want to point out that one of the advantages of the terror is that you can carry it around really fucking easily. It's like a lunch box. I've even got a back with a shoulder strap.

As long as theres a cab at the venue, you can always use that instead of lugging a cab about. I've turned up to a lot of gigs with a guitar in one hand and my terror in the other.
>>
>>60279370
that's pretty cool
I was wondering how it'll handle cleaner tones for blackgaze though, since it's single channel would I just have to set it for clean and use my pedals?

Don't get me wrong its fun as fuck playing songs though.

Sorry for taking so long to answer. They're 2 DVDs so it's probably going to clock at 7 gigs or something. The files are all in that raw dvd type thing, I haven't tested them yet, I think I'll have to download a DVD emulator or whatever it is.

Anyway It'll not be done until at least tomorrow evening, since I only have half the parts. The download cooldown is 3 hours so a friend downloaded the other half and still has to pass them to me.

My main dirt sound is a Big Muff with the sustain turned almost completely off, volume and tone on 11 o clock.
The key to usable Muff sounds is volume and backing off the sustain. You can't expect these to sound good at practice amp levels.
>>
>>60280938
if youre playing squire, dont jump to the conclusion that it's your amp. chances are it's your squier. squiers are shit tier.

So I have a epiphone SG i got like six years ago and I've gotten to the point where I don't like my tone at all. The low strings either sound super bassey or dull, as if I was lightly muting them, and the high strings sound either brittle/screechy or super quiet. I play jazz, blues, and rock mostly. Can you guys help me out on how to get a warmer tone, with more sustain?

Adjust your pickups until neither the high or low strings sound either screechy or boomy, then level out the pickups so that the high and low strings are balanced volume-wise in each pickup. Finally, adjust your pickup heights from there so that your neck and bridge pickups are about the same volume. You might find that your pickups' sweet spots are a good bit lower than you had them previously.

If you're after an Orange cab without paying Orange prices, look at Avatar. Their 2x12s (and, presumably the rest of their line) are practically the same specs as Orange and up to half the price of a PPC. And you can still get the speakers you want if you configure it new (or get lucky if you find one used).

Got a used Avatar 2x12 for $240 on Craigslist not too long ago. Another $50 for a steal on a Vintage 30 and I've got the cab I want for under $300 whereas an Orange PPC212 used (using eBay for pricing) seems to be in the $500-900 range, depending, though that would probably have 2 Vintage 30s.

I started playing bass for 9 months now and even though I'm not nearly close to being good at it I'm able to play through some basic bass lines through songs (Pixies, etc.)

Anyway, one day at work I had quite a bit of free time to fill but since carrying an heavy bass and amp would be retarded I asked my GF for her classic guitar.

Long story short I started messing with a few chords and I'm having fun now so I'm considering eventually getting a proper acoustic.

Should I? I am already stretched with time between work, sports and GF and don't even have a lot of time to practice the bass so if I pick one up I'm not sure what I would do.

But it's sounds so cooool...

Neck fits me better than Ibanez's Wizard neck. This one is asymmetric. Would prefer a flatter radius than 12" though. Build quality is excellent except for the bridge and tailpiece which feel cheap (they are still very solid). And it comes with Duncans. Overall ridiculously good value for money for under 800€.

>>
>>60286889
You know I never really liked them all that much either. I thought they looked pretty cool but that was about it. The front jack bothers me too but from what I experienced holding one in the shop, they are surprisingly well balanced. I tried playing it for shits and giggles to be honest. That was until I plugged it in with some gain... and holy shit did I love the tone it created. I was sold right in that sound booth.

Krautrock?
>>
>>60287101
Yeah same. I absolutely loved the explorer I used to have. I grew pretty tired with the LP though. It was just so heavy and I found it awkward to play sitting down. Something about the SG just kind of clicked for me. I don't know what it was about it. I'm more of a fender guy too so that made it even more out of character. My main guitar that I've had for a while now is my heavily modded 80's 52' AVRI tele.
>>
>>60287101
Not that anon, but I personally find LPs too damn thick to be comfortable.
I would like a guitar with the thickness of an SG, but the shape of a LP.
>>
>>60287106
eehhh...I guess. Here are two hints: the Les Paul is in E standard and the SG is in C standard.
>>
I've been trying to build up some extra cash for a pedalboard and decent amp but I had to pay for car repairs and lost a lot of it. Now that I only have like 200 bucks on hand that I can devote to this does it make sense to just buy an audio interface for now and use digital effects since I'm going to need one to record the amp either way?
>>
>>60287149
How about a Gibson L6S?
>>
Been interested in learning how to play jazz guitar, anyone know what bands I should listen to, that features the guitar prominently?
>>
So I just got my first ever guitar (Les Paul Special II) and now I want to pick up an interface. What's a good and relatively inexpensive interface I can get started with?
>>
>>60287149
I would recommend checking out ESP/LTD. They make some pretty solid Les Paul copies that are thinner and have a chest cutaway like a strat.
>>
Hey /gg/, does classical guitar music usually have position markings or am I supposed to figure out the proper positions myself once I stop being a noob?
>>
>>60287549
grab the focusrite 2i2. its pretty good and relatively inexpensive. id recommend this over something cheaper.
>>
>>60287643
Some cheaper models have dots on the side of neck, but most higher end ones don't. That's just something you have to get used to.
>>

The Norlin Gibson guitars were strange guitars, but they were awesome. My friend has a Marauder and it sounds great (same boy, different headstock and pickups).

Nice effort, though. How long have you been playing.

It's not a mix, just me playing over the original song. That's why I put myself so high in the mix.

Just did one take after looking at the TAB a few times, no dual tracking or any real effort to make it sound good. Plan to do it properly at some stage.
