James Brown was the best frontman of all time. George Clinton was hardly a frontman at all and acted more as P-funk's stage manager or curator, allowing the musicians to contribute their full measure of energy to the collective vision rather than taking it upon himself to produce the kind of explosive vocals and showmanship that JB's act revolved around.
For my money P-funk produced more satisfying albums for posterity, although seeing James Brown in his prime surely would have been more exciting.
