Can we have a South American music thread? Specifically, I'd personally like some recs from the less common countries (ie: not Brazil) but if everyone just wants to discuss South American music in general, that's okay too.
It doesn't have to just be music I would like, it can be music you like (though in general, I prefer 20th century).

There are lots of interesting genres to explore... Guabinas, Tango, Bambuco, Cumbia... Some indigenous musics too.

I'm from Chile. Easily the most listened-to "underground" genre here is indie rock. Plain, easy, chill indie rock. Listen to Protistas (indie rock/alt rock) and Miss Garrison (artsy electronic rock).
Also there's been a long-lasting pop scene here that seems to be getting wider and progressively better, like Alex Anwandter or Dënver.
Question for non-Chileans: Is Chile considered musically valuable or at least recognizable where you live?

No. I don't remember any Chilean musicians or groups being talk about here, outside of the ocassional mention of Parra and Jara.
It is commonly known there's a lot of metalheads there though.

The only worthwhile chilean musician is Ricardo Villalobos tbh (even though he was raised and lived most of his life in Germany)
