Have you tried American Football - American Football? It's as light as emo gets and very sad if you can empathise with the lyrics.

10 minute long single. Absolutely stunning.

Also check out their first album 'In the Flat Field' the first 3 songs are GOAT and the rest of the album is OK.

i love emo and screamo, but not really for sadness, more for self pity and energy of these bands, sometime the more post rock-ish screamo bands bring catharsis but i prefer slowcore and folk for when i'm sad
