That feel when I'm taking a college class called "History of Rock and Roll" and the professor is very anti-drugs. In the last class he says drugs were the reason for a lot of boring rock like, "The Velvet Underground and the Grateful Dead".

Putting those bands in the same category. I actually wish I was teaching this class.
>>
wow cool story

NOT HAHAHA FAAAAG
>>
Nobody on /mu/ knows shit about music
>>
That's what you get for taking a "history of rock and roll class."
>>
>>55247251

Probably. The professor is in a CCR cover band that performs on the weekends

Not even kidding
>>
>>55247267
What's CCR?
>>
>>55247295
lol

clarence clearwater revival

you should tell your professor to listen to marquee moon by television and tell anyone else you know as well
>>
I had a professor once who was one of the producers on Blue Oyster Cult's albums. He was this huge purist who disdained Elvis and was all about the originals: Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, et cetera. Then his phone went off and his ringtone was the end of Stairway to Heaven.
>>
>>55247295
creedence clearwater revival, just look up ccr it's the first thing
>>
Why are Famtano and Scariffi the two idols here? Where did you guys find them? The fanwar between these two camps is bizarre af.
>>
>>55247319
lmao
>>
>>55247226
Those bands ARE boring as fuck.
That being said he could either be of good taste or of really shitty taste.
>>
>>55247304
>>55247325
What are they, old folk? I've never heard of them.
>>
>>55247404
You know how Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and John Mellencamp pretty much own heartland rock? Well, Creedence Clearwater Revival pretty/John Fogerty pretty much owns Swamp Rock, a branch of blues rock.
>>
>>55247319
i woulda beat his ass right there and then

you've heard fortunate son

no you wouldn't
>>
>>55247446
Huh. I never listen to those genres. I'm more of a jazz man
>>55247468
And this does sound familiar.
>>
What rock music does he like other than CCR?
>>
>>55247518
Now that you've heard one CCR song you have heard them all
>>

I've taken History of Rock and Roll as well. My professor was a huge Beatles fan boy and always claimed that Sgt. Pepper's was the first concept album. I eventually gave him an education on a later paper after I got tired of it.
>>
>>55247546
he's not wrong in the case of CCR.

only thing that really changes is tempo and dynamics
>>
>>55247226
i took a history of rock and roll course and the professor spent about two minutes on glam rock and dismissed bowie entirely because "he was a weirdo."

i mean yeah, he was, but fuck.

>I eventually gave him an education

If you take a course as such in college, you are an idiot; not as a big of an idiot as the 'teacher' perhaps, but an idiot nonetheless.

I'm sorry your teacher turned out to be an idiot. Just hang in there buddy.
>>
>>55247565
What is the first concept album then?
>>
>I've listened to the /mu/ essentials, i am a music expert!
>>
>>
I had an experimental music class last semester, was cool. The teacher was an avant garde musician who worked with John Cage and shit

Now I'm in a history of black music class. Our midterm was to list 75 jazz musicians, what they played and something notable about them.

what the fuck are you on about? most degree programs require you to take a fine arts course of some sort, no matter what you're majoring in. "well rounded" and all that horseshit.

Dust Bowl Ballads. The Ventures also made many concept albums in the early 60's.

I find it so funny that Americans pay to go to college to learn how to be dadrockers.
>>
>>55247828
It's just a trivial music class that satisfies gen ed. requirements. There are other music classes out there
>>
>>55247565
My music appreciation teacher was a huge Led Zeppelin fan and always talked about how original they were. He and I talked about music fairly often, I always wanted to show him just how much of plagiarists they really were but I didn't want to break his heart.

do you?

Guarantee these "history of rock music" professors know more about music than 90% of /mu/
>>
Sucks for you m8, my history of rock and roll teacher and his wife smoked pot with abunch of my friends (who also took his class in HS) at a black keys concert
>>
>>55247226
are you paying for that nonsense.... please say your not op..
>>
>>55247874
true. i hated my professor in that class but he was terrifying in his theory course.
>>
>>55247837
Led Zeppelin fanboys are the worst
>>
>>55247874
Only because they've probably actually touched an instrument and had lessons before.
>>
>>55247226
I took it a year and a half ago

I had a cool Aussie guy as my professor and even though the book was pretty pandered to a Rolling Stone type audience it was still a usefull class for learning about the history and makeup of popular music in general.
>>
>>55247925
No, he was a totally chill guy. If he was some asshole I would've told him his favorite band stole pretty much all of their classics.
>>
>>55247915
it fills credit requirements, who gives a shit
>>
>>55247930
And have listened to music that existed before 1965

Lets settle this

>>
>>55247930
You don't need to take formal training to learn about music.
>>

There is no fucking "credit requirement" you're getting scammed
>>

That too
>>

>>
>history of music at college

Dropped like a hot potato, though thinking about it now I wouldn't have minded finishing it.
>>
>>55247978
That don't mean shit. I once dropped an English class because the professor wouldn't stop talking about nirvana and the beatles. I'm sure I'd hate your rock history professor as well but he's right. Drugs were the source of a lot of boring rock music and there's nothing wrong with lumping two boring bands together even if they have nothing to do with one another.
>>
>>55248209
>I once dropped an English class because the professor wouldn't stop talking about nirvana and the beatles.
average Animal Collective fan
>>
>>55248240
I don't even like that band. I only listen to rock 'n' roll. Nice try though, bitchboy.

>>
>tfw had a Music Appreciation class and wrote an 8 page paper and did a 15 minute presentation on Krautrock (Can in particular)

One of those bands did nothing but dick around in their live shows to compensate for the fact they didn't have any good material, just masturbating into the ears of millions of eager fans, and the other band had Jerry Garcia in it.
>>
>>55248350
I like GD but they're up against The Velvet Underground, sooo.

the first velvet album is great!

yeah, pretty much.
>>
>>55248619
in my history of rock class they went back to when music was just purchased as sheet music. It's a legitimate class, I'll give it that.
>>
>>55247226
>That feel when I'm taking a college class called "History of Rock and Roll
If I was your parent, I would drive to your college and beat the shit out of you for taking a COLLEGE CLASS in "history of rock & roll"..

I'm guessing you're at a community college? Because I don't think any reputable college would have fucking history of rock & roll classes.

it's required to take a history of rock & roll class?

>>
>>55248857
YOU'RE probably the one who went to a shitty school then. Most colleges have plenty of esoteric classes to take as electives. Tolkien classes and Star Wars classes are very popular and arguably more useless than History of Rock and Roll.
