Is is still trendy to hate dadrock here?
How could you listen to something like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7rFYbMhcG8
and not enjoy it?
If it's cool, let's discuss dad-rock (bonus points for obscure shit)
>obscure shit
Isn't the definition of dadrock, if it even has a clear one, stuff that was popular back in the day? Wouldn't that just make "obscure dadrock" an oxymoron?
>>55224573
I thought we were taking it back, kind of like "nigger". Except in this case, it's now a catch-all for classic rock, so we can discuss shit like southern hard rock and pysch rock in the same thread.

i love dadrock, the people who hate on it here are just assholes.
i listened to some led zeppelin and CCR today, it was fucking sweet
>>55224611
In that case, I'll post something by a somewhat obscure band (they had one or two top 40 hits, but they're not really known beyond that)

I don't enjoy fake blues.
Is there good dadrock? Yes. But I personally don't believe that the pinnacle of musical creativity was achieved in the 70s with 1 or 2 guitars, a bass, and drums.
>>55224684
I think it's something to do with dadrock being for "edgy teens" or something.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpAoX6IxoFo
dadrock is great for casual listening and pink floyd is still great. DSOTM, Animals and WYWH dont sound like they've aged at all in the past decades, which can't be said for most of their contemporaries. The eagles maybe?
I've actually transcended the dadrock and gotten into grandpasoul and im really digging some of the otis redding, sam cooke, marvin gaye, etc

>white people can't play blues.
>>55224545
I don't think rock will ever be as good as dadrock was
>>55224545
>Is is still trendy to hate dadrock here?
I don't know but I love The Clash and XTC
>>55224719
>I don't enjoy fake blues.
>>55224719
The beauty of dadrock is that it's not supposed to be complicated (unless you're listening to prog, which can get pretty out there at times). Just nice enjoyable music about fucking and smoking pot.
>>55224709
Oh man, this is exactly what I've been looking for. I've been trying to expand my music collection with new bands.
Fucking jam, too.
and here's some maybe slightly unknown shit

You'd be surprised. There is definitely modern dadrock.
Some bands manage to hit it.

You know, I had a few songs off that album (notably the Amboy Dukes) but I never thought to find the actual track listing and see what it held.
Thanks.

>tfw white
>tfw love the blues
>tfw just absolutely let down by every white boy trying to sound like Howlin' Wolf
Beefheart was the only guy to do it right
>>55224877
>no Buffalo Killers
pleb
>>55224835
youre entitled to your opinion/taste obvs but youre missin out on some real gems man. if you're real into delta blues early 1900s shit that's great and there's plenty to appreciate, but elements of blues worked their way into almost every type of american/british music through the 70s and 80s.
>>55224910
I love plenty of dadrock that is blues influenced and all that, but anything that is straight blues attempts like Stevie Ray Vaughn is just painful
>>55224898
>pleb
Confirmed. Thanks for the lead, though.
I just remembered another new band, though.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_5q0n2mDR8
>>55224947
But SRV was good, though. :(
ribs in peas.
>>55224947
>Stevie Ray Vaughn is just painful
Wow so patrician
>>55224947
aw cmon man srv is a great guitarist. I'm biased as a guitarist myself even though i dont try to play that shit, but he was really technically skilled and had some of the most innovative phrasing ever in blues rock. i also wouldn't classify that as straight blues either, considering delta blues was much slower paced. it definitely has the E - A - E - A - B - A - E thing going on but its novel in its approach if you ask me
to each their own though. I suppose you dont like clapton much either? cream and his early solo shit is great imo, though i dont go out of my way to listen to it
>>55225022
>mfw guitarist
>mfw SRV is just wankery with no soul
I srs dig Cream though. Great songwriting and musicianship. Clapton never went overboard. Kept it tight and in tact.
>>55224719
>mfw the black keys start playing on the radio
>>55224835
>blues was dead by 1970
you just don't know anything about the blues
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_DOnKJ232M
>white people suck ass at it
if you seriously can't enjoy the Stones or CCR you're just trying to be edgy
>>55225022
Speaking of Clapton, '80s Clapton was so good, it's retarded.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOI_g9uKwYg
Seriously.
>>55225040
Blind Faith was better
>>55225054
alright i was a bit jumpin the gun on the 1970 after all Muddy was putting out jammers
and the Stones + CCR aren't what I'm talking about. I'm talking about muh white boy blues like Joe Bonassama or SRV
>>55224573
Peter Frampton is DEFINITELY dad rock.
>>55225096
well I actually agree with you there. but the color of their skin isn't why they're not very good.
btw if you've never listened to RL Burnside and love the blues check out his album Burnside on Burnside.
>>55225040
i know im not going to change your mind but i sincerely disagree. If you haven't heard it and you're willing to at least humor me, little wing is a fantastic cover and one of the most amazing solo electric guitar performances i've ever heard.
There definitely is some wankery but i dont think it's soulless. I'm not some shill for SRV's estate and I haven't listened to him since i started playing (when i was also into stuff like buckethead, primus, dream theater, etc) but i still respect the guys legacy and i've seen a lot of live footage that makes me think he was real into it.
>>55225056
yeah man i've heard that song many times. I feel like his career started goin downhill at journeyman, but that might be because i heard it so much as a kid.
>>55225144
Journeyman WAS weak, unfortunately. It isn't just your imagination.
Not rock, but this is literally the GOAT song.

Because as much as mu hipsters don't like to admit, a lot of "dadrock" is actually very well conceived, well written, well performed, innovative and influential music. There's a reason why people hold bands like The Beatles higher than say, The Seeds or ? and the Mysterians, two good bands in their own right, but neither of which were as good as songwriters or innovative as the Fab Four. That's also why LZ is held above bands of their time as well. There was always mediocre bands with one or two good songs that got popular, but the memory of them fades with history while The Beatles and LZ stay with us, because their music is still as popular as ever and still influences popular musicians.
