Pic related and nu jazz in general is what got me into jazz, I think if more people came at it from that angle they'd like it more

I think Bitches Brew is too avant-garde to help new listeners get into jazz. For example, dissonance plays a large part in the album.

I'm sorry you might be right, I've always found it pretty easy to listen to it but it's been played around me since I was a youngster. Some Kind of Blue is probably a much better option.

And I wouldn't say it's the overt dissonance that makes it hard, altough that plays a role too.
It's the lenght.

Its pretty easy to appreciate, fun and simple jazz fusion, that's all it is. There isn't anything particularly difficult about it.
Also M.I.A., Ke$ha, and Lady Gaga have experimented with dissonance, doesn't make then avant garde or difficult.
