If everyone hates the genre name "IDM" what should it be called?
plebtronic
I feel like a pretentious asshole saying I like Intelligent dance music - especially when it's not dance music or necessarily intelligent
PDM: Pretentious Dance Music

The only people who hate the name of the genre are insecure faggots who feel that the music they're listening to might be considered "unintelligent." Which never really is the case

"In a September 1997 interview, Aphex Twin commented on the 'Intelligent Dance Music' label:
I just think it's really funny to have terms like that. It's basically saying 'this is intelligent and everything else is stupid.' It's really nasty to everyone else's music. (laughs) It makes me laugh, things like that. I don't use names. I just say that I like something or I don't."

Yes genre names tend to be that way, but i already said it, so it's law now

ProgressiveDM would probably a good one

not bad either as far as existing terms go
>>54223879
leftfield strikes me as far broader, and very different
>>54223934
no, repetitive stomping techno can have loops just as intricate
>>54224025
Sounds like your talking about Death Metal. Also it's not very danceable most of the time.
I would say progressive electronic music. PEM. Also an easy to say acronym.
techno
anything that gets called IDM really belongs to a real genre anyway, like techno or glitch or downtempo or ambient, so just call it what it actually is
>>54224208
what's the RDJ album?
>>54224236
Drill and bass
>>54224236

a lot of what's classified as dance music isn't very "dance-y". like dub techno. point is it's derived directly from dance music styles the way prog is derived from plain ol' rock.
although >>54224208 has a point as pdm arists can build from very different, distinct styles of dm
sophisticated and complex dance music for intellectuals much like myself
not necessarily intelligent by nature but what i mentioned earlier - in contrast to the unoriginal club music that enables people to churn out the same tune for 20 years before moving onto the next big thing
