You get it or you don't, might take some time or might not happen at all really. I didn't bother for too long because it was hyped in background pretty much sametime as trap was forefront, trap a shit. Footwork pretty damn comfy, fun kind of disjointed patterns, great fast-slow feel, fun too pitched to like 180, I'm just not fan of ass/lean memesamples sorts, rarer these days atleast, good evolution considering the horrible 90s roots. Got into it some years ago with the Rashad and Spinn Redbull Academy set. Definitely listening releases instead of sets now tho. Currently checking Jap Mutation Bootyism 4-disk 2nd compilation.
Recently enjoyed most of Dred Collective vol.3 recently, good jungle/rave/footwork crossover stuff save for few crappy mnml tracks. Similar to these would be PZG & Dubsknit - We Rob Rave, which I found out thanks to /bleep/. These might help getting into more ''orthodox'', dancers-based Chicago stuff. Few of my Chicago favs:

looks like the dudes from M&M went on to produce a lot of tribal stuff, harder techno, and even early trance which you might want to look into - ome of the trance from the early 90s is very in line with hardcore of that time

I’m going to make this quick. Steve Albini famously said that he would record anyone who asked — Mumdance and Logos represent ‘anyone who asked’. Think processed, mid-90s rave music played by your dorky state college friend. 10 tracks in 50 minutes make Proto an excruciating listen. I’ll be honest: I got up to track 5 and gave up. This is safe, bland, boring, faceless, forgettable, predictable tripe that will no doubt end up in a club DJ’s rubbish bin. The only memorable tune, “Border Drone,” gets by on a neat little distorted hi-hat beat but still comes up short in the content department.
In all seriousness, folks, I honestly don’t like writing scathing reviews like these. If it were up to me, every single collaborative duo whose record found its way into my Discman would get a glowing review and re-invigorate my faith in electronic dance music. I suppose I feel a little guilty putting these two guys down like some old, mangled steed. My major qualm with this record — aside from the fact that its songs are entirely unremarkable — is that it just has no personality. What I mean is that when I listen to any piece of music, I feel like there should be a certain quality inherent in the music that gives me a reason why I should be listening to this and nothing else. When I listen to a record, I want the artist to reach out, shake me around, and give me a fucking reason why I should listen to their music! Even if I don’t necessarily enjoy what I’m hearing, I would nevertheless respect the artist for coming across in such a way. The problem I have with artists like Mumdance and Logos is that they’re just not giving me a reason to listen.
