Pixies
Slint
King Crimson

Dispatch (mostly the songs written by Chadwick Stokes)
Tool

Two very different bands, two very different ways of writing music. Most of you probably know Tool, but probably not Dispatch. Two of my favorite bands.
On one side you have very warming and energetic/loving music by Dispatch, which is usually easy for me to connect to as to where I am located. On the other hand you have Tool's brilliant lyrics and instrumental work which makes me dig far into the depths of my mind.
>>
swans, nirvana (specificly in utero), and godflesh
>>
>>53875648
Beck
Weezer
Pink Floyd
Syd Barrett
The Velvet Underground
Joy Division
King Crimson
and Neutral Milk Hotel

I listen to a lot more music than this but these are the bands I base my sound off of and I notice the more I listen to a certain artist the more I sound like them, intentionally or not.

>>
>>53877269
>>53876824
although you might want to do more than just those solo guitar tracks. I feel like you sould include one on a release but listening to more than just one gets really tiring really quick. Also trying playing with some different guitar tones

For my electronic project:
Skinny Puppy
Front Line Assembly
Psyche
Laibach

Conrad Schnitzler
General EDM shit, I don't actually listen to the genre because it's so bland but there are some elements I like about it
Various video game music composers, notably Arata Iiyoshi

For my band, which I write most of the material for but everyone adds their own touch so a lot of the influences are barely audible
Insect Surfers
Daikiju
Dick Dale
The Ventures
Man or Astro Man?
Langhorns
John Scofield
Django Reinhardt
The Brian Jonestown Massacre
Funkadelic
Yonder Mountain String Band

I'm trying to say someone was getting defensive about no longer being the only avantteen on the block
>>
>>53875648
I know this may sound edgy, but honestly, my music is directly influenced by a lack of interest in what I'm hearing. If I'm feeling burned out in terms of listening to music, I'll make something up to entertain myself. Sometimes I'll just write a song so I'll have something new and interesting to listen to.
>>
>>53878021
>thinks what he discovered was avant garde music.

But that's not at all what you were saying. You were directly referencing the music.

You lost. Get over it.

okay they have nice songflow and a great balance between the vocals and the music
>have a nice life
I don't see why anybody likes them
>mbv
good influence for textures
>slowdive
good influence for melodic, textured music and the whole "vocals as an instrument" concept
>joy division
good influence for mood and rhythms
>the cure
depends on the era, but overall a solid pop band
>dinosaur jr
not a huge fan, but I could see good influence coming from mascis guitar work
>teen suicide

Tom Waits (In terms of songwriting, but also guitar playing because of Marc Ribot)
Joanna Newsom
Pink Floyd (less so nowadays, but they were a formative band for me so some of their influence is deep down in me at this point)
Michael Hurley (He's really gotten me into old folk and blues music and gotten me to incorporate those influences in my music. Also his music is hugely inspiring)
Nick Cave
Bob Dylan
Screaming Females
Black Sabbath

Those are most of the big ones I guess
>>
