obviously classical since its the one timeless genre (jazz and pop genres mostly appeal to the generations who grew up with them).

It spans the greatest length of time. Geniuses are rare enough throughout the centuries, so nevermind decades. Considering the greats of each genre shows classical to be the most varied (from monophonic latin chants to electroacoustic serialism). It peaked with a culture of aristocracy that devoted a lot of energy to musical literacy and appreciation in comparison with the informal mass culture and short span easy-listening which popular music genres grew in.

It is underrated because no generation is alive to remember it being dominant, and its patronage is mainly through academia and public bodies.
>>
>>53584004
you can just say classical as a whole then. People that aren't into classical listen to romantic era piano more than any other form of classical music.
>>
>>53584230
It's not underrated. Everyone are aware of it and of it's genius. People just don't enjoy it that much for some reason, but it's still very highly appreciated.
>>
>>53584250
classical is too broad.
IMO romantic is the best, therefore since it's classical it's slept on hard
>>
>>53584277
talk to the next person. Ask them to name one classical composer that isn't Bach, Mozart, or Beethoven.
If they can't answer that, they don't listen to classical music

Do that to 10 people and maybe one of them listen to classical.
>>
>>53584307
And the people who do listen to it are always scum.
>>
>>53584230
nah. there are other genres that are old and unappreciated. bluegrass is nearly to the level that classical is.

IMO, probably some sort of metal. A lot of metal is dismissed either
A. by normalfags who won't listen to anything with screamed vocals
B. by tr00 kvlt metalheads who refuse to listen to some metal because the singer wears tight pants

>>53584307

thirded.
>>
>>53584322
There was this kid in my high school who legitimately believed that classical music is the only type of music that requires any talent at all. He thought that literally all other music was worthless.

Weird kid.
>>
>>53584278
For classical, it's listened to more than any other period. It's definitely listened to more than Renaissance music or the Classical period.
>>
>>53584327
nah. you probably no more because as a music nerd you can at least appreciate some classical even if you don't listen to it much.

normalfags can't stand classical. that's why there are retards who study to symphonies and shit; they think it's for educated people (and maybe it is if normalfags just don't get it).

most 20-year olds probably couldn't name another composer
>>
>>53584277
>It's not underrated
why not?

>Everyone are aware of it and of it's genius
This is the kind of attitude which shows classical is still underrated. No, everyone is Not aware of its genius. Classical is too elitist (in a good way, by not compromising) for everyone to realise even a quarter of its full genius.

>People just don't enjoy it that much for some reason
>but it's still very highly appreciated.
These statements contradict each other. A shy or uninterested reverence is not much of an appreciation.

>>53584322
Actually by definition they would be the opposite of scum by association with elite music.

>>53584323
>metal
>bluegrass is nearly to the level that classical is
bluegrass was invented Circa 1948. metal even later. both fit in with the popular genres described in >>53584230
>>
>>53584307
It's not listened to by many people but it's still rated very highly. Everyone are aware of it's impact and everyone respects it. Also, many people have been exposed to classical through cartoons and movies.

Btw I don't think there's anything wrong with people that the only classical they listen to consists of Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart. They are amazing composers.

Only correct answer itt
>>
Swing music.

Had that brief revival in the late 90's, and now seems completely forgotten and never talked about.

I think one of the reasons might be that the music is rather uncompelling at low volumes or listened to through crappy earbuds, so kids today probably won't find it interesting, but play some good Swing at 90db through a pair of great headphones or full range speakers where you can hear the soundstage in its full effect, and it gets your blood pumping.

proof that once again, classical cock suckers must always derail a thread
>>
>>53584409
All musicians I met treated classical with a lot of respect even though they didn't really listen to it. I literally never met a musician irl that said anything bad about classical.

The thing is, that people rate it highly, treat it with respect and maybe while not understanding it's "full genius" they still understand that's it's very smart and difficult music. Classical music just doesn't appeals to everyone for some reason but I don't think it makes it "underrated" maybe only "underlistened" or something like that.

I'm mainly talking about musicians though. But I even met a few people that enjoyed classical even though they weren't musicians.
>>
Tradional Medieval Music.
>>
>>53584409
Honestly, who cares? Classical has been a form of music for longer so long it's inculcated into half the planet's cultures. Every pre-contemporary era musician's been dead for 60 years. Nobody needs to praise it for it to be good, it's already had 200 years of the spotlight.
