Hard to name a favorite, maybe Ingram Marshall
also, Philip Glass with Ravi Shankar is damn fine

For anyone who likes Steve Reich, check out the guitarist Dominic Frasca. He played on "Triple Quartet", and a lot of his solo stuff is minimalist-influenced, in that there's a good deal of repetition and stuff.

If you consider drone minimalism.
I think that minimalism has classical connotations though, so for me they just go down as ambient.

what about A Winged Victory for the Sullen?

and is contemporary/neoclassical considered minimalism? or is contemporary classical just a huge umbrella term/not minimalism/can be considered minimalism? (The last sentence is indeed three questions)
>>
>>53315801
Let's not distract ourselves with neoclassical trite.
>>
>>53316093
sorry dad :/
but ye u're right
>>
>>53315801
contemporary just means anything composed after ~1970

neoclassical is music written in the classical style in the 20th century. see Stravinsky's neoclassical period. it does not include "neoclassical" metal bands that use diminished scales and pretend to know theory or counterpoint.

minimalism simply means hardcore economy of material. very little material is used to generate a piece. one note or chord or one rthythmic device might serve as the catalyst for an entire piece, undergoing small mutations and changes over time.

anything that uses a very small amount of material to generate a larger work could be considered minimalism. but in the genre term associated with classical/art music, minimalism usually refers to NYC downtown composers in the 80s and 90s like Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Julia Wolfe, etc.

It's novel pop, basically.

>so Apollon, Persephone, and Orpheus are neoclassical
yep, Stravinsky was big on his ancient greek history in that stage of his life.
he wrote some very "normal" sounding music during his neoclassical period though.
