i feel like kevin shields abuse of effects (distortion esp.) is a metaphor for love- most people's perception of love is probably not as it really exists. you try and change it around to make it more appealing but in doing that you lose sight of what it really is.

I find it too vague to ascribe any specific meaning to. That's part of the reason why I like it: It's a largely incomprehensible piece of guitar fuckery which from my perspective doesn't really try to be more than that. And I'm reasonably confident that all the lyrics were completely made up on the spot after the instrumentals were composed, so I'd hesitate to try to draw any theme from the small set of the words that are even clearly understandable.

I always saw him getting up as him walking away from god, also, the two headed boy in question is either a deformed baby who died in the womb or a deformed child who was tested on and killed by the Nazis, and the narrator describes the loneliness of his suffering and how God was never there for him, the narrator also describes the life he'd want the boy to have if he lived (having a loving family and girlfriend for example) but even when he describes a perfect, dreamlike world for him the feeling or abandonment creeps in (don't hate her when she gets up to leave) which confirms that he can no longer be optimistic, and then he leaves.
