I could actually get behind this. I like brancedance too but it sounds a bit quirky to be taken seriously as a genre title. But anythings better than what we've got stuck with. What may have helped 'IDM' catch on is that it rolls off the tongue well though.

Hi OP and everyone, I'm the guy that started the thread about this album cover yesterday. Thanks for sharing an interest; I really enjoy ELM, especially early- and mid-nineties stuff. I would like to recommend this pic related album. I don't think it's *purely* electronic but I get a lot of the same comfy feels and love it in the colder months.

Hell yes! That track is so subterranean. And the melody that comes in right before the 5 min mark has always been a gratifying moment in the music for me. Incunabula is a great album, you'll hear a differently mixed track on it called "Eggshell."

I'm friendly to all music, and I don't think we should exclude anything that may be of interest. I see the genre as refreshingly open to interpretation. "Intelligent dance music" is inherently limiting, and in many cases I think the "dance" part is misleading. ELM has roots in dance music because of its means of production, but doesn't share much in spirit. Just my two cents.
I really love this album, Pop Polling by Accelera Deck. Never heard anything else by the guy...

I was pretty big into the Rising high Records label too for a lot of the ambient techno stuff.
Back then there wasn't a great deal of labels putting this sort of stuff out...alot of it was clustered onto labels such as warp/rephlex/rising high/R&S/Mute etc
I also had the VHS video for this and it was fucking epic on acid
