I've been a pretty big Pharrell fan for a while since The Neptune's and N.E.R.D. I think the video is really aesthetically pleasing and cute as fuck, but I can only imagine the reaction normals are going to say since the main girl is lolicious. Anime is so disproportionately filled with shit and that makes it really difficult to get into. You can say that about any medium, but definitely not to the same extent. Even fucking video games are proportionately better.
I don't see why so many have to fall back on pandering and fan service or spectacle. So much so that when an anime subverts it's mediums tropes in any way, weeks go apes hit with their "MASTERFUL DECONSTRUCTION OF THE GENRE" bullshit.

I really do think this is hyperbole. A lot of my favorite shows of all time were anime, and anime shows/movie have given me incredible emotion and feels time after time.
Is television any better of a medium? With dozens of day-time soap operas produced on a shoe string budget, talk shows, "the people's court" type judge shows, infomercials, reality television, etc. you really could say the same for any type of medium if you dislike it enough.

But that's my opinion, like yours, and it shouldn't affect how you enjoy something. The legend and hype surrounding the Wire is far FAR larger than most anime shows. That also ties back into what I was talking about earlier with Nickleback and how everyone hates them because they see everyone else hating them. Group mentality.
There is no anime show lauded as a genre defining piece that is legendary and absolutely must watch. So in turn, people will think that anime lacks any actually good series, or beautiful plots, because we'd have heard about them right?
