Got banned for posting in a "bomb" thread on /pol/ (you can shitpost on /mu/, but you can't shitpost on /pol/, fucking shit)
It was just a 5 day ban, nothing too serious, also i had some homework to do, so the ban kinda "helped" me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4a1Qw4jQqrM I am an annoying L.I.E.S fanboy

dumb question here
but do "good" releases on vinyl always appreciate in value?
are they a good investment?
not that i'm buying to flip, but i'd hate to buy a record for like £15 or so only to sell it for £1 in a few years time
say shit like new joy o/boddika or any "good" release, will that always appreciate?
>>49796922

>>49796856
Benga, on the other hand...
>>49797004
https://hardwax.com/39550/kassem-mosse/workshop-19/
>>49797000
I guess not always, you really have to know your shit. A lot of releases that get too much hype have people flocking on to them just to flip and that ends up bringing the price down. (this has happened with a lot of JoyO/Boddika tracks)
Then theres tunes that have no hype and a small pressing that end up blowing up and selling for top €€
So buying records for the explicit purpose of getting paid is a pretty risky investment. Wouldn't recommend it unless you really want the tunes.
>>49797033
>26 basslines
>one million
>not classics
>>49797000
nice trips
>are they a good investment
probably not, unless you think you can predict what will be trendy/popular in the future. especially compared to traditional financial investments.
>not that i'm buying to flip, but i'd hate to buy a record for like £15 or so only to sell it for £1 in a few years time
i wouldn't buy anything where this matters. and if you think you're going to get bored enough of the tunes that you'll eventually want to sell them in the future, chances are that everyone else is going to be bored of them too...
>>49797110
just go on juno and search "one per customer"
>>49797110
ok well i've been meaning to get into records
i actually own loefah - western for some reason lol. i'm sure that's worth a lot more than i paid for it
i wish i bought hackney parrot when it got released
is it worth buying records 2nd hand from facebook groups?
>>49797158
hackney parrot is worth nothing, it gets repressed all the time. probably still in stock in a lot of shops
>>49797110
I guess I've never understood this because the only records I get are ones I really really want, so I wouldn't want to sell them. Maybe it makes more sense if spin them as a DJ and you want to unload things from 4 years ago that were just fluff to please the crowd.
>>49797158
listen to the tunes first, decide what they're worth to you, check discogs and stuff, and use that to make your decision. sheesh. i don't even own any records and i know this shit. use ur noggin m8.
>>49797174
>it gets repressed all the time
the fuck? really
why?
nonplus shit gets like 500 copies and that's it, right?
>>49797205
>why?
cos fuck the scammers, that's why
>>49797205
>why?
because why not?
>nonplus shit gets like 500 copies and that's it, right?
um no, nonplus stuff all recently got a repress. pretty much nothing on that label is worth above like £12
>>49797158
Hackney parrot was repressed all to fuck, it's not worth shit. I think it's still in stock at Redeye.
Buying second hand I'd go with discogs because of the feedback system so you'll be less likely to get scammed or buy battered records.
>>49796391
to be fair tho m8 you are a bit of cunt
>>49797033
Benga had a few good chunes, especially the early ones where he sounded exactly like skream at the time. Roller is a favorite but there's no denying he turned to shit quickly.

as far as i see it dubstep started when kode9 dropped archangel in brixton back in 2006. everyone in the room knew that something had happened... mala will talk about this day in depth and how it spurred him on to create music
>>49798779
top selection m8
>>49798823
maybe it got a lot bigger when archangel/untrue came about but there was already a movement in place with the specific name 'dubstep' with people like mala already putting out anti war dub and twisup and neverland before this.
>>49798882
nah mate sorry, i've been through this before on here. the place went nuts with an electric atmosphere...pinch was talking to coki in the smoking area about the birth of dubstep that night. everyone in the room was like "dubstep starts now"
>>49798823
Dubstep was going way before 2006... Maybe not in the same sort of way but it was definitely there.
It developed its own unique sound by 2004 tbh. Burial changed a lot of things but dubstep was going before then
>>49798965
youre just trying to appear academic for the sake of impressing other chinese cartoon fans on here. you don't know mate, you werent there. i was and i was talking to all those people that went on to be famous dubstep composers...2006 is when it started the stuff before 2006 is just what mala and pinch referred to as bassbin garage. what they wrote after hearing archangel is what they refer to as dubstep
>>49798923
lol i don't know what your definition of 'start' is but the fact that they were already using the term dubstep suggests that there was already something there? come on, stop being pedantic.

https://soundcloud.com/rinsefm/dubstep-takeover-forum-show-w-julie-n-type-youngsta-sgt-pokes
n type, youngsta and sgt pokes talking about the birth of dubstep in the first 30 mins. they mention 2006 as being the year that it blew up. but they talk about the birth of the genre being way before that. i'm gonna take their word over yours.
>>49799016
lol mate im gonna take malas word over n types. have you even met n type? man is not all there lets say......lmao
>>49799039
>>49799015
here is a documentary released in 2006 where the term 'dubstep' is used numerous times. bear in mind most of this footage will have been gathered from before 2006
http://getdarker.com/editorial/articles/dubstep-documentary-2006-various-artists/
mala, loefah etc. feature in this documentary
>>49799078
mate ive been through all this before last time i mentioned the archangel-brixton 2006 night that dubstep was born...check the archives you will get all the answers you need from that thread
>>49799039
And what about youngsta and pokes? Lol... You're being presented here with loads of evidence from the horse's mouths that go directly against what you're saying. I don't doubt that something major changed when burial surfaced but the 'birth' of dubstep at that moment wasn't a literal thing, only figurative, because these same people have talked about the specific word 'dubstep' from way before 2006. You 'being there' doesn't change anything that these people are saying
>>49799112
so just ignore what i've posted then lol
it's really like you have your fingers in your ears saying 'no no no i'm not listening i'm right'

>>49799182
lol mate thats you....i was there that night with my ears very much open...i saw dubstep get born from kode9s turntables
you need to take your fingers out of your ears and listen to what im saying, sorry. but im done arguing now. if you want to get the real facts i will be happy to answer any questions of that historical night but otherwise im just going to get back to my red stripe and funtcase

I don't think it's fair to accuse Sven of trying to ape Burial's sound, no matter how many casings hit the ground in the record. His natural sound has similarities anyway, though I think of his stuff as softer, dreamier views of the same urban nights Burial fills with harsher isolation and pain.

Entry level =/= pleb in dubstep.
What's that electronic music podcast with the cool-looking black and yellow website and the short name?
I found it by reference in a minimalist techno guy version of the man at listening party monologue meme, like ">not keeping up with (podcast name)".
I tried finding it in my web history but my new antivirus program is automatically clearing it out every week.

What's the best of 90's breakbeat/jungle?
>>49803800
I posted on DOA, Groundscore and Breakbeatscience
>His personal favourite is the jungletrack Earth Portal Mix, it’s no coincidence that it was the last track made for Syro. For someone that always kept a distance to the drum & bass scene he keeps the elements of the style surprisingly close to him.
>‘That’s probably because I still haven’t made a decent drum & bass track’, says Richard, who spends hundreds of pounds on old school jungle 12-inches on Discogs every month. ‘I keep going until I don’t fuck up. For that last track I used the right hardware, really old samplers. I’m interested in the process: how did they make that back in the day? It’s really fucking hard to program anything on those old machines. Only a few used the AKAI S950 [the second professional sampler by AKAI from 1988] for a long time; not much later the S1000 appeared and that one was a lot easier to use. But from 1993 to 1994 the S950 was thé sampler and every good jungle record was made with that. I get a kick out of that, to completely dissect that machine, analyzing every sample until I know the machine through and through.’
>Which records do you return to when you need a shoulder to cry on? ‘I like simple tracks, like early Chicago house. Mr. Fingers for example. I love really basic music. I also like to listen to complex stuff, but because I’m so involved in that myself, I find myself looking for simplicity. I recently did a remix of a bleep track from 1991 in two hours, just for fun. That UK techno kind before it changed into jungle: real simple music. Early nineties techno is my favourite now.’
Thoughts, lads?
Listening to pic related.

is J Swift still around? if so, where does he post now?
also what about that other(? - it may have been J under a different name, I can't remember) who seemed to know a shit load about early prodigy/ae/afx production and would always go on and on about it?

looks fucking dreadful tbh, no listen ever
I was 16 in 1999/2000. Was at a mental house party for new years. Too much E. Too much buckfast. Diagnostics on the stereo. Ughhhh. Spent most of NY rolling around the living room floor.

>i listen to things based on artwork! :^)
kek faggot
i suddenly want a techstep revival
as in sure techstep eventually evolved into neurofunk but techstep is completely different from neurofunk. techstep is more stripped-down and mechanic while neurofunk is more aggressive (and with recent shit, more brostep-y)
future garage equivalent to techstep when?
>>49813005
>future garage equivalent to techstep
It's called New School Techstep.
been testing out entry level experimental music.

>>49803800
I posted on DOA, though not much. My best man and one of my groomsmen were i taun and dis jennifer on there if you remember that stuff.
>>49803800
DOA was fucking elite. Edgelords before this shithole website.
>>49803800
Whatever happened to DoA? I remember giving up on it when that server change happened and the forum slowed to a fucking crawl. And before that (or was it shortly after?) there was the virus/malware catastrophe that happened via the ads they used. Didn't one dog get fired for unknowingly infecting his workplace's network?
....And wasn't it pretty much abandoned from an admin standpoint? There were moderators, but what about the guy who actually owned it? Hadn't he disappeared for years and was assumed to not give a shit anymore? Kek.
Plus it seems like forums have been a dying breed for years; not many people use them. I remember when DoA was pretty much like /b/: refresh the front page and there was a fresh batch of threads to read. I can't think of many forums that are still like that these days - most 'young people' stick to twitter/Facebook for their online social shit, which is a shame IMO.

SO RANDUM!!!11 XD
Deep house EP of the year so far /mu/?
what's the best techno release this year?
My choice last year would be daniel avery's drone logic
>>49813630
well im waiting to see if Syro is going to be any good, FlyLo will most likely be great. But I'm going to have to say Objekt's debut LP will be the best if Aphex isn't really really good.
>>49813619
top 5 for sure. aim is always quality.
>>49813630
not sure about releases but check out >>49812659 as well as the dettmann fabric mix. both amazing.
>>49813630
I seem to be the only one who thinks this, but Drone Logic was stale trendy bullshit
