hey fellow wannabe producers!

what's your opinion on reveal sound spire (pic related)?

whats your favorite plugin/soft synth?

seriously why are all these producers so pleb and want to pay so much money for inferior synths?

I think the synths isn't really the pricing but:

But I still agree though

it has so many features it does everything that a lot of producers I know use 5 different types of synths to do while zyn can additive, subtractive, fm, vowel filters, shit like that.
>>
>>49617674

Yeah. Like I only use those synths that can be versatile

I even used a lot of different ones on this beat and went from there

alright man pretty cool beat man I gave you some feedback on it. what synths you used on that btw?
>>
>>49617594
I fucking hate it when shit has more than one page of controls. I feel like that might be different if I were really really into sound design but when that shit is too complicated and my only option is to stop everything else to work on a sound, it's like "ugh" and don't even get me started on what a bitch it is to start expressing the sound with automation.

I'm a really lazy sound designer. I mostly use Synth1 and Romplers.
>>
>>49617919
I used

> Anatares

the rest is either sampled or orignal messing thanks again!

Nightly Water cycle is nice with the rotary!
>>
I mainly use Bazille (fm-synth) with the Eventide Ultrachannel (it was free a few months ago). Sometimes i use some free Glitchmachines plugins which are pretty cool.

Does anybody here use MAX/MSP? I'm really on the fence about it since it's 20% off. My main conceirn is that it's so vast and flexible that i will never get things done. Which was the problem i had when i still used a modular system.

>tl;dr can you actually finish projects with max or do you just use it to experiment and play around?

I usually make songs in under 3 days technically, then I go back and touch em up and maybe add something here and there then
mix/master them and I'm done.

>>
>>49619265
by the way, what are good drum synths?
>>
>>49619297
I use Tension and Collision in Ableton quite a lot. Mostly just the presets which I tweak, especially Tension as it's an extremely difficult synth to tame.
>>
>>49619265
It's pretty trivial to recreate a drum machine like the 808 in a a standard subtractive synthesiser, you'd be surprised. You don't need a special synthesiser to do that. Ableton actually supplies an 808 knockoff that's just a drum rack where each pad is connected to an Operator instance.
>>
>>49619340

anything with a variety of noise sources, filters, fm, and really tight envelopes. even better if it can do linear and exponential envelope shapes.
>>
>>49619377
The 808 kick isn't FM or subtractive. It uses a circuit called a bridged-t network. It's a special oscillator that makes noise when it is excited by a trigger, and responds dynamically to bigger triggers. The decay time is controlled by a feedback loop. It also goes slightly flat at long decay settings.

That's why they're a bitch to emulate.
>>

>>
>>49619591

I run ableton. It has everything you need for sound generation. The only really weak link is the reverb, and M4L solves that issue with a convolution plug-in. People say that the sounds and effects are weak, but that is because they are meant to be layered and stacked in racks.
>>
>>49619614
Arp oddy plugins are good for leads. Idk what can capture Minimoog bass well though. Most Minimoog plugins I've used only have panels that look like a Minimoog

>>
>>49619838

I'm not sure what you're implying, but most retro synth emulations don't sound that accurate. IMHO you either need to buy the real gear or sample it.
>>
>>49619838
HAHAHA
>>
>>49619913
A VA is going to sound miles better than a sample.
>>
>>49620106

A va isn't going to sound like 70s analog hardware. Most of the best emulations use multiple samples.

>Also, you have yet to name any 70s synth sounding sample banks.

Retro Synths
Omnisphere

You have yet to even answer anon's question. The point I'm getting at is that there's no shortcut for authentic retro sound. I love digital and softsynths, but I don't use them to imitate vintage things.

Really almost any synthesizer.

From up up in the thread, ZynAddSubFX is super-powerful and free.

From my own experience, Tyrell and Synth1 are also powerful but much easier to use.

It takes time to get the most out of your tools tho so pay attention to what you're doing, what you're doing wrong, and what your heroes are doing right.
>>
>>49620811
zynaddsub looks really confusing
I have synth1 but I neglect it

Operator is an FM synth. Look up how to learn any FM synth. There are some really good tutorials out there but I'm much too lazy to go link you one.

>>49621028
Yeah, I don't actually like Zynblablabla either.

Try writing your parts monophonically. Just as an exercise, don't make any one synth do a whole chord. Give each note in the chord to a different synth. Maybe put at least one of the notes in a different octave.

Also, use your I-V! If you don't understand that and use it, you're gonna have a bad time.
>>
>>49621593
25 keys isn't enough for two hands, and you're still pretty limited using one hand. Sure you can make the argument of having octave buttons and using your daw to add notes, but at that point, why bother with a controller.

My point is that, if you're getting a midi controller, you might as well get enough keys to make it worth the money.

I was. It's incredibly helpful to understand that the I chord creates an expectation that you're going to eventually hear a V chord. It's one of the easiest ways to build tension, tease at resolution and then release the tension. It's a formula but it's an almost unavoidable and an extremely powerful one.
>>
>>49617271
hey guys, how do you download plugins? can someone post a video
>>
>>49624080
It's the other way around dingus. The I is stable, you don't expect it to go anywhere. You're going to expect the V or V7 to lead to a I, though it is often more interesting when you don't, leading the listener on.

You should check out theoria.com for some good exercises and basic theory stuffs.
