Xth for Babymetal
>>
>>49387165
BABYMETAL is pure consumer garbage. They replace the complex compositional structure of true thinking man's metal with rock structures and simple 3-chord progressions and the melodic content of simple pop (populist) music, to give the listener a water-down product that they can listen to and feel like they have listened to metal without having to ever challenge their minds with the rich and challenging content of true intellectual, thinking man's music. BABYMETAL are filth for plebian false metal fans, who bastardize the Hessian lifestyle and make a mockery of the thinking man's music and Hessian lifestyle. You dance in the halls of the temple real metalheads like myself built.

Updated. Still have to listen to RTTN and Roots over Kentucky and Aura but that's for later. More suggestions?

Interesting to see Vintersorg on there. I really like his album Visions From The Spiral Generator but that has nothing to do with folk whatsoever, it's straight up prog metal
>>

You motherfucker.
>>
>>49388069
Yeah. You should check out Till Fjälls if you haven't yet. He's also got a side project called Otyg which is more folky, but I think the Vintersorg project is better.
>>49388071
They're the two more popular albums, and I did say I'll still listen to them.

>10th century Scandinavia
If Primordial would see you added them to this column...
Also still no Isengard. Come on man, gotta do it for our lord and saviour Fenriz.
>>
>>49388150
I'm sure they've left Ireland and battled in Scandinavia if they lived in the 10th century.

As for Isengard, the production is just so terrible. Ugh.
>>
>>49388171
Problem solved if you chage it to "Northern Europe" or just Europe. Irish folk is quite distinct from Norse.
>>
>>49388235
Yeah, that makes sense.
>>
>>49387919
I gave it a listen and from the starting three albums, I like Bathory the most, where do I go from there?
>>
>>49388248
Also is Smallman REALLY folk? What I heard from it it was just prog man.

Weird, I have their music downloaded but last.fm says that I haven't listened to it yet. Doing so now.
>>49388341
Fixed.

It's The Mantle, then AATG. I think my current favourite Agalloch output is their The White EP though.
>>

Anything similar to this or Negative Plane? It's really South-American sounding, cant quite put my finger on it.

it absolutely DISGUSTS me that bands like BABYMETAL would DARE to call themselves metal. They are little more than metalcore with superficial elements of metal tacked on. I suspect that at some point, perhaps, they have heard a CD by the legendary INCANTATION or BEHERIT and felt that they could latch on to some of the more easily executed parts of their music to perhaps garner a response from the true metal fans among us, but any truly enlightened extreme metal fan would not fall for such foolishness. their riffs show no true knowledge of music theory and its application in extreme metal, and fails to harken back to the works of such great composers like Beethoven and Mozart, who are the true originators and spiritual predecessors to extreme metal in its true form. do not listen to such bands, as they bastardize the one truly enlightened form of music that exists and they make a mockery of the Hessian lifestyle. You dance in the halls of the temple real metalheads like myself built.
>>

>>49388544
One day perhaps even an ignoramus like you will gain the insight to walk within the house that which our metal forefathers worked to build with their own two hands in the vast musical wilderness. Until then you may continue your open chugs, like a primitive, unenlightened brute, never understanding the vast fountain of knowledge and wisdom that flows forth from a rich vocabulary of technique and theory and the Hessian lifestyle.

they released the shit songs first. rest seems alright.

there's a lot of Disembodied/Holy Terror worship going on, but it's like

it scratches the right itches instead of just sounding like a tribute band

stylistically it's a lot closer to the Cycles EP/their split with Full of Hell than Love Is Love.

solid 8/10 on my first listen through

Virrasztók is Industrial Psychedelic Folk Metal which I'd consider pretty progressive. Weeping the Black is great Italian Prog Folk Metal but they've only released a demo so far. Smallman is progressive, Acyl is pretty progressive too. Ashtar is a more conventional kind of progressive metal with folk elements, you might like them.

I'm in a psych class and we have to write a research paper on mental illness in any form of media we want. I wanna write something on DSBM but I need some help with some things. If you could answer these questions, I'd appreciate it:

>What/who are some prominent DSBM bands or projects?

>What lyrical themes exemplify DSBM?

>What defines DSBM musically? (What makes DSBM different from BM)

>What is attractive/enjoyable about DSBM?

>Do you view DSBM as a positive or negative influence?

>What possibly motivates musicians to write DSBM?

>Are you drawn to DSBM because you are depressed and/or suicidal, or for other related reasons?
>>
>>49390247
You are just another trend-hopster (aka hipster) who enjoys listening to tremolo-picked indie chords which creates a "bittersweet" effect that appeals to emotion like your average McDonald's-approved mall muzak and shows no knowledge of music theory and technique and intellectual, thinking man's, Hessian lifestyle content. Rather than listening to intellectually profound metal like AUTOPSY or DISSECTION, you'd rather listen to lyrics that sound like some egocentric Hot Topic "I'm so dark, bruh" high schooler wrote them because he feels life somehow wronged him because some bitch has a bigger house than him. This does nothing but spit in the faces of our metal forefathers such as PAGANINI, STRAVINSKY, BACH and cheapens the metal culture and does nothing but mock the Hessian lifestyle and the thinking man's music. Do yourself a favour; stop listening to metal (or pretending to), otherwise known as the thinking man's music and go buy yourself a few Nirvana albums. At least that way you can listen to insincere whine rock in it's original form and not as black metal-flavoured garbage you listen to now that doesn't challenge the listener the way true thinking man's metal challenges the minds of those who subscribe to the Hessian lifestyle.

Depressive atmosphere (slow paced melody), whispering or screams of desperation

Depends on a type of person really, if you're a depressed little bitch it probably has a negative influence

I'd say it's the opposite. Varg's beliefs get him publicity. Burzum is already one of the absolute biggest names in bm.
>>
>>49391516
Can you be figuratively oblivious to the fact that Burzum would have twice as many fans if it weren't for his outspoken beliefs?
>>
>>49391091
Shining, Silencer, dude just check RYM.
Suicide, death, depression (obviously).
Slower, not focused on blast beats, a lot of reverb on the vocals, pained screams.
The music, as with any other genre.
>Do you view preaching suicide as a positive or negative influence
What do you think?
The music, their own circumstances.
No, I just like black metal. I have depressive tendencies though but I don't think they are related.

>What/who are some prominent DSBM bands or projects?
Silencer, Xasthur, Striborg, Lifelover, Make a Change... Kill Yourself, Forgotten Tomb, and Thy Light are a good place to start.

>What is attractive/enjoyable about DSBM?
Same as any other genre of music. Expression of emotion.

>Do you view DSBM as a positive or negative influence?
If someone listens to dsbm, that's a symptom of their attitude. Music does not cause you to feel more positive/negative, it just reflects what you're already feeling.
>>
>>49391571
>maybe they are not depressed at all and go play badminton
Imagining Kvarforth and Nattramn covered in blood playing badminton was a very funny mental image, thanks.
>>
>>49391577
Every time I see Burzum posted amongst metalheads that are into mainstream metal it always stirs up a giant shitstorm and everyone circlejerks about how they can't enjoy his music because of his beliefs.

More like weak points in overall good tracks (namely Daedalus - that track could have been nuts but only turned out good). The breakdown on From the Kettle could have been done better, but it's still a killer track.

Korpiklaani's Voice of Wilderness should not be an editors choice, it's what you should start your weekend with.

I'll list my choices row by row:

Finntroll - Nattfodd
Arkona - Ot Serdtsa K Nebu (Avoid Pentadrama, they're not good enough yet to be worth your time, maybe in a few years)
Smallman -Envision (These guys are awesome. Literally, Tool mixed with Folk)
This next line is the most solid, although i've never really like Tyr, go with Falkenbach
Dordeduh, I cannot stress this enough. Drudkh close second.
Svartsot is pretty good, Bran Barr is great when they get intense, Melechesh=wonderful, Windir though, amazing shit

For Behemoth, none of their albums really sound like The Satanist but Demigod, and Zos Kia Cultus are probably worth a listen.

I listened to Si monvmentvm for the first time today, and I was kinda disappointed with it. I was hoping for something a lot more conceptually coherent and less wandering, but other than the prayer tracks none of the songs really seemed to be going anywhere. >>
>>49396742

Every release is different really. Kenose, Mass Grave Aesthetics, and Diabolus Absconditus may be more your alley if you're looking for similarities to SMRC, but in much more digestible sizes.

Fas is utter structured chaos, the black metal Obscura, extremely different from the earlier records/EPs

Chaining the Katechon is the missing link between Fas and Paracletus and is considered one of their best works songs/EPs

Paracletus retains the sound of Fas, but bringing back the concept of the interludes/Prayers, and being a more diverse and accessible release.

Drought is more of Paracletus

So really, just pick something.

Musically, I enjoy it because most of it is atmospheric, which is a branch of black metal that I prefer to the traditional "muh blasphemy" themes and aesthetic of early bands.
I don't pay much attention to the lyrics, but the music generally has a cathartic effect when I'm feeling down.

Besides the obvious choices, one of my favorites is called Make a Change, Kill Yourself, which despite the retarded name is really good.

Depends on what you like.

I guess that by "No screaming" you only like clean vocals and not growls/ death metal singing etc

If no more information i would recommend albums covering a large field of tthe "metal-without-"""screams""" "
NIghtwish - Oceanborn
Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Animals as leaders - Weightless
Rainbow - Rising
Diablo Swing Orchestra - Sing-Along Songs For The Damned & Delirious.

Also, find a metal chart.

The Satanist is another metalcore disaster. It's yet another pathetic attempt by Behemoth to make death metal, the thinking man's music. Instead, we were "treated" with yet another "brew2l" radio pap mall-approved album full of third rate dumbed down Morbid Angel riffs and vapid music (actually muzak). This does nothing but damage metal, cheapen the culture and make a mockery of the Hessian lifestyle. Rather than showing a return to their roots, they keep pandering to the AC/DC arena rock culture by flavouring it with metal-styled riffs and guitar solos in the vein of Slash which are overproduced to shit, followed by Nergal's overproduced and multi-tracked bowel movement growls and "additional instrumentation" which everyone who lives the Hessian lifestyle can recognize for what it is - carnival music. I'm sure this will be a fan favourite of every dumb, drunk Wacken attendee who can only appreciate the true thinking man's music by it's surface aesthetics and cannot recognize knowledge of music theory and it's usage in true thinking man's, Hessian lifestyle death metal such as MASSACRA or DEMIGOD. Avoid this commercial, McDonald's culture-approved angst groove made by radio rockers (actually tagged metal for marketing purposes) which does nothing but spit in the face of the thinking man's, superior, Hessian lifestyle. You dance in halls of the temple real metalheads like myself built.

>>49404875
You are just another drunk idiot trend-hopster (aka hipster) that discovered metal through PBR and MTV Headbanger's Ball who mocks the Hessian lifestyle and cannot recognize true, thinking man's metal and it's rich and varied musical content, but would rather listen to anything that either sounds "brew2l" or "sophisticated" by throwing in Starbucks culture-approved, thick-rim glasses instruments which devolves their metal-flavoured indie ruawk even further into carnival music (actually muzak). One does not simply latch himself onto the thinking man's, Hessian lifestyle, one must become worthy enough to call himself a Hessian by recognizing the contributions of our metal forefathers like MOZART, LISZT and BRAHMS who worked hard to make the foundations for the metal temple by showing us immaculate knowledge of music theory and composition and harmonics and melody and true, thinking man's content. A member of the herd such as yourself will never separate the good metal music with complex structures and thinking man's, Hessian lifestyle content such as HAVOHEJ and OBITUARY.from metal-flavoured AC/DC Wacken stadium rock such as IN FLAMES and EYEHATEGOD and metal-flavoured Glastonbury indie rock/lite-jazz such as GOJIRA and DEAFHEAVEN. You cheapen the metal culture by listening to mall-approved personal drama music (actually muzak) rather than the complex thinking man's, Hessian lifestyle metal which deals with the cruelty of reality we are all part of. You dance in the halls of the temple real metalheads like myself built.
