Not their best album but probably their most underrated.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5X-Mrc2l1d0
they're still ripping off this album and Thriller to this day
Jazz>Funk>Hip Hop>Blues>disco>Soul>R&B
I Want You and Let's Get It On are better than What's Going On, IMO.
>Funk
Stevie Wonder - Innervisions
Prince - Dirty Mind
>R&B/Soul
Marvin Gaye - I Want You
Aretha Franklin - Lady Soul
Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid
>Disco
Donna Summer - Four Seasons of Love
Chic - Risque
>>49171562
>not C'est Chic
Nigga do you even Freak out?
I hate all of those genres.
Excpet maybe Soul, I can tolerate some Gil Scott-Heron.
>>49171578
It's a tie between those two so I flipped a coin, really. I mean Risque has My Feet Keep Dancing and My Forbidden Lover but C'est Chic has At Last I Am Free and I Want Your Love.
Plus, I feel like Good Times is slightly better than Le Freak. Only slightly though.
>>49171609
I would hate to have your music taste. It must be so bland.
>>49171560
This guy, as if you listened to 10 albums of each genre
The Weeknd - Trilogy
>>49171638
I don't see how disco is anything other than bland, but okay.
>>49171664
Disco was one of those genres that many people hopped on and led to some really bland pop hits, but actual Disco artists are fucking phenomenal. I dare anybody listen to I Feel love and say they dislike it.
>>49171620
>At Last I Am Free
Not one I would have rated that highly. I think the vocals aren't very well executed. It's like something Funkadelic would do but I don't think they pulled it off that well.
>>49171662
go away
The clarity of sound in this album is incredible. Every chord change is just dripping with intention, at every turn it's obvious that Stevie is a mastermind.
>>49171702
Really? For me it's a song that I could totally see myself having a complete epiphany to. I could see why people wouldn't like the kinda campy vocal style though, perhaps?
these 2 were god tier together
If this world were mine is my fave.
>>49171483
/mu/ knows absolutely nothing about those genres
>>49171761
Thanks for enlighting us with your deep knowledge.
>>49171719
Hugely talented artist. I can't think of any modern mainstream musicians with his kind of technical ability.
Buddy Miles - A Message To The People
There will never be a better soul/funk album than this one.
>>49171803
Prince is (debatably) at his level or above, depending on who you ask.
>>49171793
point out where i said i was a black music expert
>>49171710
>not liking the weeknd
when ye is finally done making music, what will his legacy be? will he be categorized with the all-time greats?
>>49171662
>>49171865
Fuck off.
>>49171858
By stating this board has no knowledge of these genres, therefore implying you had some yourself (otherwise I don't know how you can tell /mu/ has no knowledge about it, unless you're making some controversial shit for fun).
>>49171882
I think it's gonna be hard to guess. He definitely has the critical respect down but he isn't as loved by fans of the genre as many of the other all time black music greats are.
Charles Bradley is killin shit right now, guys great.
David Ruffin is a must
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNpy1q9lVR8
Stevie Wonder of course
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0Gu-CyE-NQ
Asoto Union is a modern Korean Funk group.
not english i know, but give it a try. You might be pleasantly surprised.
>>49171882
I think so. It'll take time though, time needs to be given for people to forget the artists who, while famous haven't really done anything of note bar get money.
>>49171884
>not liking based abel

Jay Kay is such a fucking faggot but God damn he's got a great voice.
Holy fuck
This single is in my Top 10 songs ever
Bazuka - Dynomite
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wPbyDyDoIo
It's some kind of explosive Funk (insanely catchy)
One day after listening to it it got stuck in my head for the whole day to the point that it almost started to hurt. No joke.
11/10 song though.
does this count?
>>49171719
great album
talking book is amazing too
>>49171560
>Hip Hop
>anywhere but the bottom
Nice try, faggot.
>>49172579
Have you even heard Soul and R&B?
kind of jazz fusion funk
>Soul
I honestly prefer blue-eyed soul in general so my favorite soul album is actually Searching for the Young Soul Rebels. Most African soul (at least the classics) doesn't have much soul (I'm guessing this is merely a problem of the nature of a studio album as I imagine the live performances were great but even the live albums usually weren't). As an example, Otis Redding or James Brown or Aretha Franklin I've heard at least six or seven albums by each but on average each album isn't that good and the soul is only really obvious in their live performances.
>Funk
Probably Funkadelic's s/t though I do like Papa Was a Rollin' Stone and Sly & The Family Stone and other stuff of the period and of course punk funk like A Certain Ratio or something like Born Under Punches. Again, most funky classics aren't actually that funky.
>Disco
Giorgio Moroder, Chic or Michael Jackson, etc...I also like Saturday Night Fever, fight me.
>R&B
Modern R&B is an abomination, R&B in general refers to all these sorts of music and is kind of redundant. But blues, jazz and gospel are all better African genres.
>>49172618
rhythm and blues is fucking amazing you shitdick
are you sure you're not confusing it with contemporary r&b
Contemporary R&B isn't that bad, you guys. Yeah some of it does have a dime a dozen feel but so what? Erykah Badu, (early) Mary J Blige, Aaliyah, Kelis, D'angelo, R. Kelly, etc all have solid catalogues.
>>49172836
I'm referring to both, but it's just that I think that Hip Hop does more to me than R&B

Kool and the Gang and KC and the Sunshine Band
My current favourite groove
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKISdd2mKzU
>>49172170
Love the band, but hate Jay Kay.
Too feminine sounding.
>>49172883
This is /mu/, though...
White people can't into contemporary r&b
>>49173288
>tfw white guy who is into and prefers most typically black styles but can't into r&b
I try my hardest to be a good wigger but sometimes it's hard.

This is pretty fantastic. Some really fantastic slap playing, not overly technical just really tasteful.

>>49173761
sounds like some chic song that i cant remember
Let's Get It On is universally acknowledged as being the best
>>49174818
of Marvin Gaye
D'Angelo - Voodoo
Great singing, great grooves.
>>49174953
fuck yeah how was this not posted?
oh, and channel ORANGE, of course
>>49171825
I love funk/soul but I swear I just don't get the appeal with this record.
I'll probably sell it soon but I guess I'll give it another spin
>>49172288
mah nigga
also Funk Factory - Funk Factory is essential
EXTREMELY UNDERRATED album
>>49175894
agreed
Anytime, Anyplace is like proto-porngroove, it's fantastic
>>49171483
I've had this on repeat for a while now. So much groove.
>>49177034
We have a winner!
It's a shame it'll be advert music before long and that means I won't be able to like it anymore r-right?
>>49171483
That's my all time fave... but also...
>>49174953
Fuck yeah, but don't forget this one too.
>>49177677
Yeah that's a good one too.
How about some more 90's R&B?
Pic related.
Maybe a little ballad-heavy, but that's his thing.
>>49177138
Why not?
Thought I'd share this one:
Oneness of Juju - African Rhythms
>race empowerment with a heavy dose of funk, pure positivity you can dance to regardless of your color
SAMPLE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz_rJb7mrEY
DL LINK: http://www22.zippyshare.com/v/98959102/file.html
/mu/ sucks at Soul and R&B.
>>49175894
Disagree. It's the worst of her 4 "classics"
Control > Rhythm Nation > Velvet Rope > Janet.
Let's not act like her other albums matter aside from a few singles.
herbie is the-list-goes-on-core funk but hey you know?
>>49177034
The first time I listened to this I thought it was amazing but the second time it seemed extremely generic to me. Still catchy/enjoyable, but super super generic. I was saddened.
>>49171560
Jazz>Hip Hop>Blues>Soul>Funk>R&B
yesss
There is a disturbing lack of this man in this thread. Massively underrated
funky as heck
>>49172936
>Aseop Rock
>good in any way
