Yeah looks like a pretty killer lineup. I know both Ludwig Alfonso and Hans Glaschwing from playing in Miguel Zenon's quartet with Luis Perdomo. Yosvanny Terry's Latin album from a couple years ago was killer and I'm excited to hear Sipiagin playing some Latin music.

Matt Brewer's releasing an album on Criss Cross too in September and that one looks to be good too.

why are you so obsessed with sipiagin jtg? is it a sexual thing?

Yeah I am m80
>>

Haha I'm not going to pretend my dick doesn't get a little hard when I hear that beautiful, round tone of his.

I think he's an exceptional composer, in my opinion, one of the best in the jazz idiom today. He's also an exceptional trumpet player. I think he's one of the most technically gifted players but he also plays tastefully, and with purpose. The music that he makes mostly falls into my very favorite kind of jazz, so its at least somewhat personal bias.
>>
>>49101722
definitely a good one. I think I preferred Jasmine a little better though. Maybe just because of the tune selection.
>>
>>49103059
I figured there probably weren't too many anons who played brass.

I listened to this album for the first time today and i'm not sure how i feel about it. Have you guys ever listened to it? What did you thought about it in first listening? What do you think about it now?

(I asked the same question in a previous /jazz/ but it got deleted)

anyone checked out Voyager's new release yet? i love the band and studied under one of them for a while, but i haven't bought it out of skepticism toward the surprising R&B direction it seemed to have took. id love to hear /mu/'s thoughts

they wouldn't sound good if they were random.

>>
>>49109301
Yeah, the purely jazz tracks are great, as expected, but the album starts with an R&Bish track, does one good jazz track, does two hip-hoppish tracks (the second one actually isn't all that bad with Eigsti playing over it; would've been really cool if this was the only one), two jazz tracks, a rock ballad, a short interlude with a bunch of vocals, three great jazz tracks, and some kind of funky mishmash at the end. There's just too much fat. Who did you study under? I assume it was Julian or Taylor, since they teach at like Stanford or something.
>>
lol you niggas probably can't even play an instrument

quit pretending you know shit about jazz
>>
>>49109338
>>49109057

I wasn't being serious, I was pointing out how fucking stupid it is to give a shit about the album cover.

Why isn't Jimi Hendrix considered jazz?

both actually, I forgot julian was on this album and not matt stevens (i was confusing it with walter's new album). thanks for the review ill probably get it soon. kinda ticked me off at the onset that eric was selling this album for $20 on facebook and $30 for signed copies
>>
>>49109532
Should've jumped on it earlier. When it was a preorder, regular copies were $15 and signed were $20. But yeah, I was really pleased with the great tracks. Classic Voyager, almost makes me feel like it's a live album again, just because the atmosphere of it is so much like the first album.
>>
>>49109432
i spent an hour practicing 4-way coordination

you don't even know me man!!!
>>
>>49109432
quite a few of the /jazz/ regulars play jazz and some are actually pretty good
>>
Jazz noob here. After listening to the entry level stuff I really liked the piano playing on A Love Supreme. Which other albums by McCoy Tyner should I make sure to hear?
>>
>>49109627
to add, any drummers here? what do you practice? books?
>>
>>49109656
are there ever threads where people post jazz OC here?
>>
>>49109788
JTG posts some recordings sometimes
>>
>>49109781
I'm a drummer but I've never really tried playing jazz style. How does one start playing jazz drums?
>>
>>49109746
Well, if it is piano you like, i recommend Keith Jarett or Lyle Mays. Look up "Pat Metheny First Circle" in Spotify. you should see a suggestion that says "First Circle - Live Version". Click it and enjoy your eargasms, anon. The vocalist, Pedro Aznar, has an amazing voice that just adds to the eloquence of the piece and in the middle it all fades to a piano solo by Lyle Mays himself. It reaches a climax that is beyond words. The end of the piece always has me feeling that amazing musical high one gets when they listen to something amazing. I highly recommend it, bro. The whole album really is amazing. (the album is "The Road To You", by the way)
>>
>>49109432
well, do you play an instrument?
I for one do and actually have been experimenting with fusing several musical styles. If you do play an instrument, what do you play? (bassist here)
>>
>>49109885
first jazz book i bought was john riley's the art of bop drumming. its essential. go download it!

another way is if you already have books or stuff on syncopation, use those as sheet music for your left (snare hand) while keep a consistent jazz ride pattern with hi hat on two and four
>>
related to this thread, however, i must say that Pat Metheny's Orchestrion Project stuff is pretty impressive. the Metheny-Mehldau album also has some pretty damn good stuff.
>>
>>49109746
Inception, Reaching Fourth, The Real McCoy and Expansions are favorites of mine. Plus his playing on Inner Urge (Joe Henderson) and Night Dreamer (Wayne Shorter).

what is your favorite free jazz album, /jazz/?

Here's one I've posted before. One of my favorite Coltrane ballads. Just a really simple version.

That's not a free jazz album. Have you even listened to it, it's a structured improvisation based on several modal motifs.
