No musician feels thread? Let's fix this up

>tfw trying to make a lot of different stuff
>tfw end up to trash everything
>tfw can't find my own style

How do you cope with these feels? I've tried to do some acoustic stuff, it sounded good but it didn't feel mine, I tried post-rock but it was shit, black metallish songs sound too generic and I always end up doing random harsh noise because fuck all. I lack inspiration.
>>
>>48643104
If music isn't how you make a living then take a week off. Do some fun things, get away from your daily routine. You need to reset a little.
>>
>tfw drummer for like 3 different people's music
>tfw none of it is music i want to play on my own

i just want to be in a proper mathy noise band, i just want to hit bang the drums as hard and fast as i can for as long as i can. considering starting to do solo drum stuff, but i'm not quite good enough yet, a.k.a i'm not even close to good enough
>>
>>48643148
this.

Don't worry OP you'll find your sound. Don't lose your drive.
>>
>tfw trying to make a lot of different stuff
of course you're never going to get good at anything if you keep flitting about restless between styles.

focus on something you numpty.
it's much harder than what you're doing right now but it's the only way to get good at something.

80% of your time should be spent specialising - where you work your ass off to get really fucking good.
the rest of the time is your downtime, a chance to go exploring and have fun.

work, motherfucker.

I don't do it for a living but it's like the only thing that doesn't make me feel useless, anyway I should try to give a rest nonetheless.

>>48643195
What if I don't know on what to focus?
>>
>>48643224
>it's like the only thing that doesn't make me feel useless.

Wow I know that feel. Making / Trying to make music is literally the only thing that makes me feel good.
>>
>>48643224
>What if I don't know on what to focus?
flip a coin.
if you pick wrong, you'll find out in the long run but at least you'll be miserable and kind-of-good at something you hate instead of shit at everything.

plus, skills are translatable so it's relatively easy to take what you've learned while getting good at a certain thing and apply it to other things.

but that's only after like 3+ years of complete dedication to a certain thing.
you'll end up learning to love the thing you're focusing on anyway.

pick a genre you're very familiar with so you know the tropes and when you've ended up sounding like someone else. spend the first year and half listening to the shit out of whatever genre you pick - everything, with a fine tooth comb.

Yo working on your voice is so straightforward. Listen to singers you like, try to imitate them, get close, but also add in what you think you want with it. Keep working on it all the time, get your unique singing voice, practice that into infinity

Best part about doing it is your voice is always there to practice with, don't have to go home and get your instrument

we're debating whether to record an EP or a full length at the moment. we got an offer last weekend from a pretty successful guy who engineered some very big name records that /mu/ loves.

we really don't know the next step to take. a full length is a lot of money and a lot of work. we genuinely have 12-15 songs that i feel are strong, but it might be wiser to record the best 6 or something. I don't know.

I was kind of a poacher tbh

Go to a lot of local shows and find the people who are good players but not being fulfilled or appreciated in their bands. Or maybe they like dream pop but are playing in a punk band or a metal band.

Also I think it helps to have some material ready to work on immediately. Even if you don't end up using it, it cements bonds and you'll be able to quickly tell if you guys work well together.

or just be lucky idk

>singer / songwriter in a prog metal / grindcore band
>get a deal with a small but well known label within the community
>recording a concept EP
>label doesn't want to put it out due to the controversal nature of the concept

What should I do? I'm proud of the lyrics and i don't want to rewrite them.

The concept in short is this:
The hero is a young man who builds a time machine. He travels back to the time of his childhood to rape his then six year old sister. This changes the course of time forever and creates a discontinuum. When he travels back his sister has grown up to be in an incest relationship with his alternate self. The hero kills his doppelgänger self and takes his place. To cope with the shame he has kinky sex with male crackwhores with the hope to get Aids. When he finally gets Aids he also infects his sister. Then they both travel back to the time of her their childhood and rape their child selfs so they will die of Aids before they get into incest. After that the hero lets her sister die and travels into the far future and gets a cure for his Aids. Finally cured he goes back to the jurassic age to live with the dinosaurs.

I make shitcore. Shitcore is me screaming and playing random guitar notes really fast. It makes me happy. I'm also working on 5 IDM albums, a noiserock LP, a drone album, and an hour long cover of Wish You Were Here.

Happens to every instrument related with "classical" music. You have to start at age 4, or resign to be mediocre (I could still study a shitload of years at uni, perform with local orchestras, even teach, but never be "world-class" or something memorable). It's a tough, full-time dedicated career or nothing.

That sucks, maybe you just don't gel well with the band, it happens. Don't quit, remember that you can only get better from here.
>>
>>48650980

you'll be ok, anon. use this.

don't overplay. concentrate on locking with the kick drum at first then slowly add transitional walks. work on timing. work on muting the strings lightly and getting a nice "thump".
>>
>>48650980
Keep in mind that a lot of successful singers, songwriters, musicians and etc have received their fair share of harsh criticism. Don't wait on natural talent. If you love music, don't give up on being a bassist. If you have the passion, you have the means to achieve your true potential.

Maybe you'll find that bass isn't for you. But there is so many possible things you can do in music I would keep looking if I were you.

spending your hard earned cash on a new instrument will encourage you to learn it
Trust me, it's the same thing with DAW's. If you pirate an expensive one you won't have any drive to git gud at it, but if you drop hundreds of dollars for it you'll want to get your money's worth
