Alright lads.

I'll lead this off with a mix I just did last night. Enjoy it or hate it, I don't care. Cheers, m80's.

Why did no one tell me about Jim from Source Direct returning to music?

Also shots fired:

https://gothamcityblog.wordpress.com/2014/07/20/artist-interview-source-direct/

>They say you should never say never but I will never work with him again. There’s no point as his contribution to the music was negligible and simply more of a mate (from school days) who ended up helping to buy a few items for the studio with his family support so it was more of a extra pair of hands to help do the mundane things.

>All music creation, programming, mixing, production, engineering and mastering has solely been myself from day one. He used to make a good cup of tea to be fair… lol! S.D. has always been my baby and always will be, it cost me a lot emotionally and financially to keep it as well as blood sweat and tears but S.D. and its trademark are by law & contractually owned and vested solely by me. If you honestly had created and genuinely contributed to the S.D. body of work would you really happily agree to sign over all ownership, publishing, copyright etc. for a little pay-off cash? I know I certainly wouldn’t! S.D. is mine and tattooed on the inside of my head for life…lol!

>>
>>48513988
the basic channel off-shoots. Maurizio, Rhythm & Sound (more dub), and Round One - Five (ranges from chicago house to dub to ambient)

Some consider Andy Stott dub techno. Luxury Problems" was one of my favorites from 2012.

Shed has some good stuff. His EQD alias gets pretty dubby at times.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOqZnTcv6MY

levon vincent is not afraid to let the dub out either. pretty dark house. i imagine his stuff has soundtracked many ketamine-fuelled scat parties in berlin.

Looking forward to new material though, hope we might get something in the style of the Sounds of Life releases.

huh, that's really surprising. I remember hearing rumours about one of them getting big into drugs and shit? I wonder if any of that was true and Jim's just not mentioning it. Either way, Phil sounds like a bit of a dumb cunt. Didn't he become an investment broker or something, and now he's back and running that Vampire Records label that nobody's really heard of? Jim sounds like he's got his head on straight, and with ownership of the SD name/copyright and the networking/promo it appears he's been doing, it looks like he's serious about reviving it

You never, ever, promote shit in the OP of a general. You can ask some questions, or give the thread a theme, but you don't post links to songs you like and ESPECIALLY not to your shitty mixes.
>>
maybe this is a good place to ask. ive been trying to remember an album. the cover was black with yellow lines/minimal drawing of some sort, title in german if i recall correctly, mid 90s, techno or maybe early trance influences. possibly something about a highway in there. anyone?

You could say so of a lot of electronic genres: minimal techno, dub techno... Nowadays, those don't have a lot of meaning in themselves, and are used for really broad, different, kinds of sounds.

But what should you use instead to describe that kind of sound, in a short, and comprehensible manner?
>>
Shit thread.

Nice advertising OP!
>>
>>48517046
I don't know much about dub techno but from what some say in these threads "it all sounds the same", so I imagine the sound spectrum is not overly wide, and for minimal the term is pretty descriptive. Deep house really does have a huge range of sounds, and what does "deep" even mean?
These can all be described by that same term but share very little, imo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjuPp6YglmE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJlyMjtszLI

And I don't have an alternative, that's why I had to implicitly qualify it by calling out Tensnake, then people can immediately understand what kind of deep house I'm referring to

Trendiest genres right now overall are Instrumental Grime, Kuduro, Footwork and 90s pop revivalism (PC Music)

Jungle is on it's way out, although you still hear it in some trendy mixes here and there

Two problems
a) Jungle and DnB are terms used to describe two ends the same genre spectrum, so a Jungle revival was simultaneously, at least in part, a DnB revival
b) DnB never died

>>
>>48523879

Yea but jungle artists today are channeling early/mid 90's stuff, which was chiefly jungle. In a way you could say it's all a part of the same spectrum anyway, from dubstep to hardcore

Also grime never really "died" either but there's a whole group of young kids turning it on it's head and experimenting with it

d-dub techno revival when?
>>
>>48523971
Well n.e.R.d, but grime did go to shit for a good few years, whereas DnB's "death", if it did happen, was mid to late 2000s; somewhere between Hospital turning to shit and Autonomic flipping the script and allowing dubstep (which itself was dying) to influence the sound palette with the idea of space over agression

whatever you say brah. All I heard is a guy dicking around and coming up with some mildly interesting sounds.

I bet you if the "mystique" of POOR CHILLEN FROM A 3RD WORLD COUNTRY MAKING ELECTRONIC MUSIC wasn't part of the package nobody would give a fuck about it.

but whatever floats ur boat, brah.

Portugal is not exactly 3rd world, and people give a fuck because the music represents the creative output of a marginalised minority.

Grime was exactly the same, nobody outside the UK really gives a fuck about it, except Danny Brown.

>>48523971
M8, Grime very nearly died in a big way. So many MCs and producers had jumped ship into doing hip-Hop style bullshit and it was all without question totally shit (you could probably blame The Movement for that in a large way). It's kind of back now in that the instrumentals are as good as ever, but there is barely any properly decent MCs around in my opinion, and the old school guys are mostly shit now.

Also Trap influencing Grime is the latest problem.

All three saw a much worse drop in popularity and also after arguably a shorter time when they were considered the premier music scene for the UK than D&B. I will admit that they probably had some better mainstream exposure but that ultimately lead to their faster downfall in the end.

D&B was really mainstream for a while I agree, but it was more often some shitty Jump Up or watered down shit that made into the charts in later years (although it's that way with everything).

Grime was really, really fucking popular with teenagers. I think I find myself thinking it was more popular than it actually was because when I was blowing up big I was still in school and fucking everyone was listening to it, but the older generation never really got onto it.

I do think that Dubstep had better mainstream exposure if we're counting Brostep. Shit got so big so fast that no one really saw it coming.

there were just very minor differences across all the tracks. i understand him wanting to use a certain sound palette across the EP, but there was not enough variation to keep me interesting. even the stock synth patches were all the same. it felt too template-ish.

yeah xe2 is dope, despite the long ass intro. i'll check out the production mix.
