In this thread we discuss GOTH, INDUSTRIAL, DARK NEW WAVE/POST-PUNK, and WITCH HOUSE
/darkshit/ thread general
I'm gonna listen to some Death In June after this Disembowelment album.
Oh hey look it's the Nosferatu Man.
Been re-listening to a lot of EBM/Futurepop lately like Assemblage 23, VNV Nation, And One, Covenant etc as well as some of the harsher, weirder industrial like yelworC, 3Teeth, Youth Code and Skinny Puppy
I don't get how it's considered a "dead" genre or how the new stuff is thought of as "revival". I own a Skinny Puppy shirt and one of the most common comments I get on it is "are Skinny Puppy even still around?" (>tfw they recorded a new album just last year)
>>48259841
>Don stepped outside
>>48259830
>Death in June
Actually decent dark folk if you ignore the blatant Nazi-fetishism
>>48259845
>Skinny Puppy
I want a skinny puppy shirt. I tried their weapon album and I turned it off after the first song. It sounded like video game music.
>>48259858
Idgaf about their message. I have been listening to shit loads of death in june lately. It's very consistent in quality and it's actually pretty good music. I'm not one to pay attention to lyrics anyways.
>>48259872
I liked it, but it was no Bites or Too Dark Park
I really like dark music but I can't get into much witch house besides AAIMON (which is probably more accessible than the majority of witch house artists) and Salem. What else would you all recommend in the genre?
>>48259845
This is a lot of industrial I'm going to have to check out. I have been listening to test dept.'s first album and their live album Ecstacy Under Duress, a shit load of einsturzende neubauten, SPK, and skinny puppy. I want to get into Front Line Assembly. I generally prefer the metallic percussion based industrial but skinny puppy is an exception.
Somewhat cheesy spooky horror-themed Spanish New Wave I got really into during my death rock phase long ago
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yinR3tV_eU
>>48259931
yelworC, Youth Code and X Marks the Pedwalk are top recommendations if you like Skinny Puppy
Ironically it was the cheesy, fantastical, over the top image of artists like The Birthday Massacre, Ayria and The Cruxshadows that infected my system with the Gothic virus
I liked them because they were bombastic and over the top while still having bleak, gloomy elements
I still love all of those artists even if they're considered shit tier or entry level by elitists
>>48259881
I really want to get into neo-folk, but the ridiculous edgy politics and sleep-inducingly mellow sound of most of the artists makes me yawn or roll my eyes most of the time
I've had this album in frequent rotation lately
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ia-hGwb1B0
Seeming is 10/10 bretty gud. Hoping to see them live in the near future.
>>48260027
I agree. The only neo-folk bands I listen to are death in june and current 93
>>48259931
>I generally prefer the metallic percussion based industrial
imo the only sub genre for which "industrial" even comes close to being an accurate description of the sound
Every Gothic DJ's secret weapon
Three dark alternative club favorites in one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HWOZvq5FE4
>>48259830
Never was much for them but I really like this cover of Little Black Angel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElbViA41_L4
I used to listen to a lot of the artists on Dancing Ferret Discs like The Cruxshadows, Ego Likeness, The Last Dance, Corvus Corax and ThouShaltNot etc. Used to dress the part as well, dyed my hair, had piercings, wore a lot of the band merch etc
I sort of fell out of listening to the genre until I found out about ThouShatNot's new incarnation as Seeming. Since then I've gotten heavily into Artoffact Records' other releases and have been really into AAIMON and 3Teeth as well. I've also started to try to subtly dress a bit goth again without trying to look too outlandish or unemployable.
anyone else here love the fuck out of cold cave?
i miss brooding, angsty tunes

>>48260443
Hey guys what's your favorite Cure song :)
Awesome thread OP.
I need to look more but Ive been listening to a lot of Have a Nice Life lately. I believe they contain elements of several of these genres.
I'm working on my own "Industrial/Post Punk/No Wave" project atm myself.
I'm going to be going to see the Ego Likeness guitarist's dark ambient side project later this year, Stoneburner. Pretty good stuff.

>>48260980
I can't listen to it because it's generally kind of dweeby.
>>48261011
one can hope
>>48260955
I remember talking about U2 with my dad and he said Bono wanted to re record Boy or didnt like his vocals now because he tried hard to sound British.
>>48259992
I love The Birthday Massacre. Walking With Strangers was my shit in high school. It's still my favorite from them.
>>48261052

That wasnt very Dark wave of you bro

>>48261064

Fascination Street, followed by One Hundred Years and Out Of This World. Last Dance is also underrated as fuck.
>>48261145
They are post-punk m9
>>48259817
I've been listening to some dark country lately. It's pretty neat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ay8SxiZ_wtk
>>48261150
Probably because they're more bubblegum goth than anything actually dark. I dunno, they're more or less my go-to pop band.
>>48261162
fascination street is fantastic
>>48261150
I personally like the angsty synthpop thing they have going on, but I certainly understand your perspective
>>48260997
Velocifero has it's moments too. The Lovers and especially Deep Blue are a little masterpieces.
So if haven't listened to Ladytron try Witching Hour and Velocifero as these fits thread's topic the most. Although I still love their other albums but it's more kraftwerkian playful electro-pop or comfy ethereal-core
>>48261227
It is arguably my favorite song of all time. Certainly in the top 3 at the very least.
guys, do you like London After Midnight
before listening to this album I expected some edgy hot topic shit.
But I was wrong. It is a decent darkwave band

i saw an article about his liberal politics.
but i didn't read it, cause it could spoil my perception about his music
>>48261346
Well that's what's in the lyrics anyway
>>48261329
I like Chibi's vocals and the heavier guitars, but I prefer guitars like that. I'm generally more about gothic metal than goth rock. Wish I could like Type O Negative more than I do though. They sound good, but they seem too extravagant in their songwriting from the little I've heard.
>>48261372
i don't like it
>>48261417
Don't read it.
And don't ever visit his Facebook, too.

>>48261417
I love Skinny Puppy in spite of the OCCUPY WALL STREET GO VEGAN YOUR PRIVACY IS BEING ERODED FUCK THE MAN FUCK THE ILLUMINATI politics that are even in some of the lyrics.
And NON/Boyd Rice in spite of the HE MAN WOMAN HATER EDGY SOCIAL DARWINISM LOOK AT ME MOMMY I CAN SOUND LIKE A NAZI thing he has going on
So London After Midnight's politics don't really bother me.
I don't follow any of those artists on social media though because I don't want to hear their bullshit opinions.
is there more like salem's first album?
slow tempo, excessive use of an 808 kick, distorted vocals
Thanks for making these threads. They may not always be exactly shitpost free but I get some really nice shit from them.

Two days ago I argued with my friend about industrial music. He said that Laibach is much better than Coil.

you are right.
that could be also said for music artists in general
>>48261527
Coil is best known for original, innovative work.
Laibach is best known for doing covers of pop songs.
>>48261527

>>48261837
They're pretty gimmicky, cheesy and mallgoth but that's kind of why I like them. That and they don't take themselves seriously. Actually fun stuff imo if you're not obsessed with segregating "TRVE" from "poseur"

NON reminds me of Death in June for some reason. Probably they were both on "Various - Sacred War".. Sol Invictus is also one of my favorites.
Even though most of it is spoken word I like Boyd's Hatesville.
What an asshole. Get back at him by shooting his gawddamn head off.
I'll admit that some KMFDM fans look emo but I tend to ignore that fact.
Should we do a /darkshit/ essentials?
Naming some:
Bauhaus - In the Flat Field
Death In June - What Ends When The Symbols
John Maus - We Must Become the Pitiless Cencors
Some of my favorites are Jack off Jill (an all girl band), Comus (progressive folk band from the 70s), and Rudimentary Peni.
A lot of people like to group Peni in with punk but that mostly applies to Death Church. Peni has a lot of death and insanity weaved in the images and lyrics.

>>48269953
Depends on what you mean by "industrial." That's a pretty broad term that describes several genres that often sound fairly little alike. Industrial Rock was semi-popular in the 90s, the EBM/Futurepop stuff was pretty strong in the 00s, etc.
>>48269643
