Uhhh... have this, maybe you'll like it or find something useful, Ishkur's guide is really fun but don't take anything he says by heart, he's no absolute authority and some of the stuff in there is wrong.

Get any DAW or a Akai S3000/S3200 sampler or A Roland W30 and start messing with breaks. The Roland Juno 1 was used to get that oldschool hoover sound, along with other synths/keyboards including the Roland D50 and the Roland
JD - 800.

Here's how to properly use Ishkur's guide too imo.

Look at the genres, then look at the artists he lists as examples, then look up their discography/label their associated with on discogs.

Also, get What.cd or Soulseek to download music.

Ishkur's guide to electronic music is useful for a quick reference (bare in mind it's biased and rather dated): http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/
Tensnake's youtube playlists offer a good window into the world of classic dance music: https://www.youtube.com/user/arod2211/playlists

Essential reading:
Simon Reynolds - Energy Flash
Bill Brewster - Last Night A DJ Saved My Life

>WHERE DO I GET THIS MUSIC
Legally:
Hardwax
Redeye
Boomkat
Juno
Clone
Phonica
etc.
Discogs also has a marketplace which is very useful for finding rare records no longer on the shelves, but do your research before buying anything for an inflated price.

Record labels are your friend. Discogs probably has the most extensive archive of every release ever, and most people like to discover more music by cataloging labels on discogs and looking at where certain artists have released other stuff.

find out your favourite labels and artists and follow their sc/social media. folks usually post all the podcast and mixes they've done recently. podcasts and mixes are great way to spiral out with your tastes, given it's done by an artist you dig. there's honestly shit-tonn of podcast series, electronic explorations, resident advisor, hyponik, xl8r, fact are quite good...

sgnlf on mixcloud/basso radio is one i check quite frequently

Also this may be funny because everyone should know this, but I feel like it's important that you organize your music and download everything in high-quality and keep your folders neat.

In no particular order:
Christopher Just - House
Hardfloor - Strikeout
Shamen, The - Show Of Strength EP
Stanny Franssen - Bionical Clones
DJ Supreme vs. Rhythm Masters, The* - Enter The Scene
A Guy Called Gerald - FX (The Elevation Mix)
Juliet Roberts - Free Love
808 State - Lift / Open Your Mind
K & M Feat. Johnnie Fiori - I Got What You Need
Carnival - All Of The Girls
David Anthony - Anticipating
Sol Brothers - What Would We Do?
Eddy - (You Bring Out) The Best In Me
Felon - Get Out (Wideboys Remixes)
Shaolin Master - I'll Be Right There
Perfectly Ordinary People - Theme From P.O.P. (Club Re-mix)
Malaika - So Much Love (David Morales Mixes)
Daphne - Change
Psychopaths, The - Killer Mummy
Cappella - Helyom Halib
Crystal Waters - Makin' Happy
Spark (3) Feat. Markell & MC Spyder - I Dream Of You Baby
Lucas (2) - My Feet Work

The most I paid for any of them was £1, most were about 50p. Some of them are kinda bad apart from one banging track, so for such cheap prices they're still worth getting.

I still haven't listened to Ophidian - Between The Candle And The Star. It's actually been ages since I heard anything from him. I remember the first time me and my friends heard this in GCSEs and we were convinced there wasn't anything that could be more Hardcore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2q4MhLu6Jw

Then we found about Speedcore later on. I knew a guy in uni who was friends with someone who apparently only listened to Speedcore and nothing else and he'd never let his mates listen to what he was listening to. That guy asked me what Speedcore was and when I showed him his response was "...this is all that guy used to listen to for years? Fucking hell Jake why would you do that."

the jacket is really nice, and the artwork is so much more beautiful than the original version. it has different layers of print for the different colors on the jacket. the gold is printed glossier than the rest of it, and it makes it look 3d. it also has a gatefold cover. my copy was in perfect condition (no marks on the corners or anything) because i found it at the back of a fresh stack of records that hadn't even been put on the shelf yet. it made me so happy.

i think the µ-ziq track on bleep:10 was really good, and i liked the gas track. the rest will probably grow on me. the autechre track wasn't what i expected at all.

med school at least tried in the beginning to do something interesting, and hospital was kinda good in the beginning when i was into that type of sound. haven't cared less for their sound of today, but bop's 1st and the 2nd album were quite nice - this seems like a bit of a let down.

If you honestly think digging that superficially and getting that ignorant of a view on an entire spectrum of music is the way to go then you shouldn't even bother with it. It takes a long time before you finally find your niches, musicwise. You're too used to looking at charts and top __ lists to find shit like most of /mu/ does(which is why /mu/ always talks about the same shit over and over again and doesn't bother with non-charted stuff). Electronic music for the most part is single/EP based so you will have to spend a lot of time digging and searching through shit that has minimal reviews for you to latch onto and have to actually listen through a lot of shit before finding stuff that is you.

It took me 4+ years to find everything I liked and be well versed in it and I still don't feel like I'm there yet.

But then again you can do whatever you want to do.

So is /bleep/ basically /dancemusic/?
I see a lot of garage, techno, some jungle and maybe hardcore or minimal but what about genres like lowercase or EAI? Anyone here interested in those or would they be better discussed somewhere else?

yeah it's basically /dancemusic/

we used to have a sticky which explained all this in the OP but it's been absent recently

that stuff is better discussed in the /mu/tronica threads
>>
>>48107523
Pretty much dance music, but you might be able to discuss ambient or "IDM" (though one might class that as dance music anyway), really it depends who else happens to be in the thread. Lowercase and EAI would probably be better discussed in other threads.

/bleep/ was created to discuss the kind of electronic music that isn't often discussed on /mu/ (Techno, House, Jungle, etc).
EAI, Lowercase, Harsh Noise, etc. if often discussed on /mu/, thats why you don't see discussion about those genres in this thread
>>
>>48107523
/bleep/ is mostly dance music yeah, but the crossover with fans of those genres is honestly pretty large. I know a lot of people here including myself are into noise, onkyo, eai and musique concrete

okay. this ep was really cool and kromestar's going in a completely new direction with this one. sounds more synthy and less based on drums (particularly snare drums) than his previous music. i'm looking forward to more releases like this.

just go for hours at a time, when ur learning dont prepare sets just keep playing tunes and finding different ways to mix and eventually you'll learn what sounds good with what

>>
>>48111827
one important thing I learnt is when you practise on your own things can sound a lot different. there's a lot of ambience and noise in a club, and often with a mix that sounds jarring (in the way one track ends) on your own isn't noticeable to a bunch of people dancing
this is import to think about if you are mixing in a track and the last ones bass has been cut off, and you just keep filtering of the low end but it still doesn't seem like you can 'get rid' off a track effectively, sometimes you just have to go for it and whack on the next one, structure is everything, and a conservative amount of echo helps out with this to (especially with vocals)
