Vaporwave is already played out.
It has already begun the next stage of its evolution as a consumer trend for lost souls yearning an edgy art form. The spiritual essence of Vaporwave at its fundamental core has been lost to memehood, but it is the worst kind of memehood, a meme that drags on bloody stumps through a horde of desperate plebs reaching out to consume and become something more than normal. In this stage, Vaporwave has become an identity,a construct with barriers that are definitive to the AESTHETIC to the genre, where as it was meant to be absolutely the opposite.
The true artists in the Vaporwave genre will work to break those boundaries, to overcome the identity that has been set by the plebs who are stuck to the meme, as they see it only as a capsule to surround themselves in - an ironic art form that is a defiance of form, and yet is form. As they take Vaporwave to the next heights it will become more than Vaporwave, an amalgamation of several forms that consume each other while aspiring toward something more.
In the distance Vaporwave will become a nostalgic idol, a meme of yesteryear, a way to look back and say, 'remember when.' The new idols will be a disturbing effect of post-vapor homogenization.
