So horsefuckers? How was it? Go to any good panels? Take any good pics? Buy Amy good merch? Drink booze out of any horsefuckers? Fuck any con chicks? Tell all, post pics.

I took a lot of pics, but attended very little panels.
>>
Apparently the charity auction raised $29,000 and some change. Pretty cool.
>>
I only went to one panel. And it was shit. But I had a lot of fun regardless
>>
>>27862395
Yeah, I didn't think there were many good panels this year.
>>
>>27862395
Which one did you attend?
>>
>>27862421
The burlesque one.
>>
>>27862437
That panel could have been fun if jen blake weren't being such an obnoxious cunt the whole time.
>>
>>27862415
The letters to the princesses one was fun at times, only because one person sent:

"Dear Princess Celestia,

Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like? Thanks senpai lit af smash that like button gg bye."

Those Celestia and Luna cosplayers were really good.
>>
>>27862448

I've seen her at two cons and she was awful at both of them.
>>
>>27862448
>jen blake weren't being such an obnoxious cunt the whole time.
Explain? I'm curious what happened.
>>
>>27862465
She was annoyingly loud (drunk already), rude to everyone, talked down to the audience, and made things about her at times. Was not impressed with her as a person, overall.
>>
>>27862437
I head it was fun, what went wrong?
>>
>>27862465
She was spewing "hurrdurr you're all virgins, m.a. Larson a shit, I fuck girls, you all smell, did I mention I fuck girls? More girls than you" kinds of shit. And she was non-functionally drunk by the end of it
>>
Gala was definitely the most fun. Uncoordinated parties led to substandard parties this year. Panels ranged between great (discord). Okay (flufflepuff). And just shit(headcannon panel).

Cosplayers were cute. And staff was good. Cringe existed, but wasnt the bulk.

All in all. B+ i wish they chose a diffetent date. Because this one was terrible fur the con.bc
>>
>>27862481
I was just disappointed with the whole thing. I'm sure a lot of people had fun at that panel, I just had none.
>>
>>27862502
You and me both.
>>
>>27862492
Gala was a lot of fun. Holy shit the Fluttershy sounded...well...like Fluttershy. And her hippie voice was fucking legit.

I wasn't here last year, but people said it was all ballroom dancing and awkward as hell.
>>
Did anyone go to the madlibs panel?
>>
How long do you think BC and other pony-focused conventions have until they die out? Wasn't able to go this year because I had friends going to AMW, but I'm interested in possibly going next year.
>>
>>27862561
Years. Who knows how many. At least 4. Maybe many more
>>
>>27862561

As long as the show is on at minimum so at least another two years, likely more.
>>
>>27862480
>>27862487
Wow, that sounds horrible. And here I thought she seemed alright, she seemed nice at first glance.
>>
>>27862277
Oh hey those plushes look familiar
>>
>>27862561
Well the movie coming up may give us a few more years and if the whole GoH thing falls through we'll have a few more years after that if it is well put together.
>>
>>27862492
Also. If anyone is still in town. I recommend going to the pratt street bar. There is a derpy there who it's better than any other derpy ive seen without even being derpy. Blonde hair glasses, cute as fuck, dropped two trays and her pencil while talking to me. Giggled in a cringey, embarresed but not bimbo way.
>>
>>27862576

Yeah she's a right cunt. She hosted a family friendly MLP panel at Anime Iowa where she showed up drunk (and still drinking) and made people uncomfortable by making lots of lesbian and Jewish jokes ("I can do that because my girlfriend is a Jew").
>>
>>27862561
Bronycon has they Baltimore Convention Center Reserved through 2019, so after that, who knows.
Numbers were low this year due to the timing. Next year I expect 9000-ish, then it will ramp down until you are left with the lifers.
>>
>>27862548
Madlibs is uncoordinated and boring.
>>
>>27862587
Blue glasses?
>>
>>27862614
I think.
>>
>>27862590
Aren't there rules against showing up drunk for these kinds of things though, especially family friendly? Not that you'd have to take a breath test on the way in, but wouldn't staff be able to tell?
>>
>>27862581
I feel like if it changes too much if it is GoH, and the cons focus on that, then there will be a split in what people like.

I also think the movie will give a little push to the fandom. It won't be pumping in pure lifeblood, but it will definetly hype it up a little.
>>
>>27862646
you couldn't have taken a picture without someone's pubic hair on the drawing?
>>
>>27862637

Most conventions are strictly against it with a few exceptions such as drinking themed ones.

I and a few others reported it but I don't think anything came of it.
>>
>>27862674
Didn't feel like taking anothet, this is the photo I sent to my boy back home
>>
>>27862682
I have walked around Bronycon totally fucked up, but the thing is, is that most of the time being fucking hammered and being 200% spergy pony man is completely indistinguishable.
>>
>>27862720
Yes, but I mean wouldn't it be much more noticable by the staff if a panelist or guest was drunk? Not just any attendee unless they were causing problems.
>>
>>27862720

You are an attendee, we were talking about a guest of honor who is hosting a panel. Very different things.

Anybody managed to actually pick up a girl or something?
ANY pussy whatsoever? I assumed if some guy managed to get laid it'd be from this board.
>>
Out of curiosity, what was the age ratio during both day and night? Just wondering if the bump in numbers is from the younger people who have been watching it from age 14/15 who can now make their way out to the convention on their own now. I feel like that might be a good reason the numbers have been going up slowly.
>>
>>27863323

>>
BronyCon expected attendance to be lower this year because this year it was held in July instead of the usual August. They announced it will be in August again next year.

bronypalooza was great but the decline in the percent of it related to pone is dissapointing - I don't think a single traxk of omni's was, for example. silva hound had a killer closing set though, loved hearing hooves up high again - good memories of 2013
>>
Overall I am a bit disappointed. Mostly my own fault though.

-My panel ended up being mediocre apparently.
-Didn't sell enough merchandise. .
-Realized con horse fame is much different than internet horse fame. Thus why things ended up being pretty mediocre.
-Feels bad man that I put so much work into getting here and hyping it up.
-Con's community VIPs greatly overshadow other community guests.
-Many fellow "horse famous" people can be pretentious at times. Gets really irritating by day 3.

Good things happened though.
-I realized nor/mlp/eople like Penny, Guppy, BoxMonster. and Fatty are some of the only friends a guy like me needs to really enjoy a con.
-Realized horse fame can be incredibly fucking stupid especially at cons.(in my shame it took me 3 cons to realize that)
-Minty Root is bretty cool

I still have the post con blues though

>>27863544
Too many people in the fandom focus on selling shit or advertising themselves instead of focusing on just hanging out with friends and meeting new people and having a good time. Friendship is magic, after all. A lot of the 'horse famous' guys are pretentious fags but we can't be like them. I just ignore them at cons.
>>

>Realized con horse fame is much different than internet horse fame. Thus why things ended up being pretty mediocre.
I'd be lying if I didn't enjoy reading this. Sometimes people just need to get knocked a few pegs back to reality even if it stings. Seems like you learned a good lesson though.

Also yea, the horse famous people have built up some kind of oligarchy of power and they all act like prissy little shitheads now
>>
>>27863557
I can't name any names in case any of them are lurking, but basically they are self-centered to a point where they only talk about themselves.

Day one it is tolerable. I mean they are excited about getting to know people and are merely putting forth their best to impress others.

Day two it's like they have nothing better to talk about themselves. You try changing the subject but it always rears back to them somehow.

Day three their talk about themselves turns into belittling others. At one time they even told me in a causal way that my content was not good enough for Ponies Anthology. The way they said it wasn't even constructive either. It was shaming.

One of the main reasons I came to the con was to meet other content producers and I found that many of them don't respect people like me. I know I don't have the greatest content but I didn't deserve some of the treatment I got from a few of these people.

But I found out that regular fans of the show are so much better to hang around. Fatty and BoxMonster were really encouraging ans supportive. They even made an effort to show up to my panel even though it wasnt related to them. Guppy is literally the most generous guy I have ever met along with another guy named roasted cashew. Penny Pincher has a good sense of humor and his talk doesn't divulge into tearing the wrong people down.
>>
>>27863566
DESU yea but in a different way. I came to the con not really focusing on that part.Really what hurt the most was people not interested in my merch because >literally who
I didn't break even and am left with a lot of merch I didn't want and out of a bit of money. So basically I am feeling shame out of thinking people would want to buy merch from me.
>>
>>27863632
>>27863544
Yeah, people will be like that.
The best thing you can do is focus on enjoying yourself.
Find others who share common interests, strike up a conversation with some random, ask questions after panels, stuff like that.
I had a great time with everything outside of being a little disappointed that the Melee setup wasn't so great and almost nobody was good at Smash 4.
Aside from that, I don't think too much about the fame or whatever, and I just focus on having fun and joking around.

I'm sorry you had some bad run-ins, but at least for me, I'm already overly critical of myself, so it doesn't hurt all that much when someone doesn't give constructive criticism (and it generally ends up being the same thing I was already upset about messing up).
Don't let it bring you down too much, but remember that these people exist.
>>
>>27863632
Glad you learned your lesson. Fuck horse fame and fuck the horse famous. I like attention whoring as much as the next guy but I can't stand those cunts.

Nigger you have 25 supporters on patreon. What the fuck did you expect?

>literally who
That's exactly how it works in life. You have a small supporter base so don't expect to have a blockbuster sellout just because you show up at a popular venue. If anything, you probably would have been better off getting one of your few patreon fans drunk and getting him to buy one of the few random merch items you stashed in your bag without even bothering to set up anything.

Don't feel too bad about it - It's a business learning experience plenty of people go through. Metrics matter than what you think your pride is worth. But damn man the way you've been posting makes it sound like you feel entitled to deserve more than what you were presented with.
>>
For real, meeting random people and striking a conversation with them and hanging out with friendly people you don't know is the best way to have fun at cons. This should be common sense.
What do you do at parties? You fucking meet new people and talk to them. It's not hard.

>>

We're all very bad at planning parties
>>
>>27863764
I made a bad business decision. I sold only 17 of the 27 t shirts I bought. I did sell all my mugs though so I am happy about that. However when there are other content creators at cons that have better con fame than internet fame, well it makes for stiff competition. Something i can't quite keep up with.

Each shirt cost $19.95 to make. I sold them for $20 a piece with the intention of building good PR. Not even out for a profit. That would be dumb considering the content I make.
>>
>>27863806
Babs had a big /mlp/ party and it was fun. Except people still stayed in their fucking cliques in that party.

>>27863811
I'm not talking about planning parties, I'm talking about just meeting up at conventions and hanging out with each other. The convention is the party.
>>
>>27863764
Patreon still has nothing to do with it. Just look at Brony Reactors man. They have no Patreon as far as I know.

You don't need a patreon to be internet famous.
>>
>>27863825
>Except people still stayed in their fucking cliques in that party.

>>27863846
I think what I mean to say is that building connections is what my main goal was so I could improve my content.

I thought I did everything right to build good PR. Like utilizing all forms of social media and getting your content featured on EQD and stuff. And the lesson I learned was that it really is all about who you know and not what you do in this fandom

Good content does not automatically grant you good reputation. That is where I slipped up.

>Good content does not automatically grant you good reputation. That is where I slipped up.

This line of thinking is 100% destructive and shows how flawed of a character you have. You outright just assume your content is good and by that people should think it's good like you. It's the artist's taste fallacy. Maybe double check what you produce and figure out what might be going wrong instead of trying to place the blame on the establishment.
>>
>>27863835
>it was run by HN

There were maybe like two HN dudes actively involved in running it. There were some people who were kinda cliquey at the party, but if you approached most of the blokes there most of them would've been chill to make drunken conversation with. That was my experience, at least.

>>27863856

>>
>>27863883
I fully understand wanting to approach everything from a business standpoint I was looking for you for like 1/3rd of the con so I could meet you and talk about this kinda stuff , but with situations like these it's a lot better to take the time and fully understand what you're getting into before making any decisions.
It's also good to just build up good friendships with people so they'll feel more inclined to support you and your work, which is great because cons are about having fun and enjoying yourself.

You also have to keep in mind your content in comparison to others, in reference to both relevance and purpose in the grand scheme of the fandom, not saying that you're insignificant, rather than others simply produce things that more people will be hooked by, and that's just how things work.
The best you can do is work to improve yourself and be thankful for the audience you retain.
>>
>>27863883
Idk if that's true.

Connections are important but quality content matters too. As does churning out new shit. So whos left? People that churn out new shit (emphasis on shit) like KP, AC, Dr. Wolf and people with connections like gabe and bvids and saber. You also have to consider your audience.

Stupid react videos are simple and appeal to tons of idiots. Looks like you do piano/acoustic/remixes along with some general other videos? Even people that appreciate quality may not be into that genre or may not care about music. Much smaller audience to begin with. I don't remember seeing your booth. But if you wanted exposure why didn't you have like your music playing and then some cds or flash drives with music to sell. Maybe one or two shirts but your music is your thing right? Give people a taste of that.

Going to improve upon my point because it came out more venomous than I wanted:

Let me clarify one thing you need to ask yourself: Are you in it for the enjoyment or for the money? Because this answer will drastically change how you should approach your model from here on out.

If you like doing what you're doing, then that's fine. You have people that also like what you're doing - However, maybe it's not something that fits the popular mainstream. So it's something niche which means it's going to be relatively small. Never expect big numbers from this, but you'll get more enjoyment and free time - it stays a hobby.

The other route is more money. If you tailor to what is popular and trendy, you'll be selling much more stuff, though it will hurt your creativity and you might be meeting quotas you don't find fun. That's when a hobby turns into a business venture.

You can't take something you like which isn't gaining a ton of followers and expect a ton of profiteering is what I was trying to say.

You do you I guess. I just don't want you turning in to another douche like I've seen others with your current thought process.

For once, I'd like to see all those horse famous people come to a convention without having a table in the artist alley, without having a panel, and without performing or promoting themselves in any way. I'd like to see them come to a convention to just be with people, and not just people in their circlejerk. I bet like half the horse famous people in the fandom would even care to show up to a convention if they couldn't sell anything.
>>
>>27864034
It's been about the money for them since 2011. Best to try to ignore it.

>Even people that appreciate quality may not be into that genre or may not care about music
This.

I see Weim's videos pop up on EQD every now and then, and I usually just skip them without looking at them.

While I think they are well produced from a technical standpoint, they are kind of in this odd place of being half MLP remixes and half piano lessons.

It just doesn't feel like it has a widespread appeal compared to other fandom content like the full on electronic song remixes and animated videos.

I'm sure there's an audience for that, but it's going to be small.
>>
>>27863835
Also as of Nightmare Nights HN has basically zero involvement in the planning of /mlp/arties. Most of the blokes who were previously involved are tired of running things and are handing it off to new people.

The clique shit will probably never go away, honestly. It's going to be everywhere you go. I'm not big on it either honestly, and I'm trying to organize the parties in a way that everyone can have fun with each other. Unfortunately, some people just aren't okay with leaving their comfort zone and ditching their mates, even when drunk. You're basically stuck having to make the first move and hoping whoever you chat up responds well.

Or you could just hit me up at one of the parties and I'll help you bypass all the cliquish bullshit. As much as we act obsessed with ourselves, we're not going to tell a fellow horsefucker, even if he's a rando.

Wish I went. Looks like a lot of fun. Too bad I'm paralytically afraid of how god damn anxious I'd be if I was there. All this stuff about group-hopping and getting to know people... So, why was the /mlp/arty an absolute abortion this year?
Maybe it is time for someone other than HN to step up, or at least they could try and get some organization going on ahead of time!
What went down in the green room was sketch as fuck, there were underage anons in there packing the booze they brought, and we were in a pretty public place. Whose idea was it to go there?
>>
>>27865365
It was down 26% from last year, but this was a pretty terrible time. Plane tickets are pricier, they rented the entire convention center so con passes were more expensive as well, and there were multiple factors involved in this drop. >>
>>27865435
When you put some HN guy in charge, of course it's going to be shit. Didn't sound like anyone else tried planning anything.
>>
>>27865626
The thing is, everyone was checking HN twitter and certain tripfags for the room. If you said you had a room and would host, it meant the HN guys would come in, say thanks for the room and commandeer it from there, so it would end up being their plans. I ended up heading to a different party spread by word of mouth, posting the shit in the thread when we have limited space and loads of people is where it all goes wrong. I know someone who offered to step up and host, but when he found out that they meant "let us use your room as a venue so we can throw a party that lends credit to HN".
It's a good thing nobody tried to step up in the thread, or this shit would end up happening next year too, until someone else offered up their place to host. Capper is the reason HN ended up being the host of the parties, but it was probably all Capper, which is pretty much exactly what HN is anyway, it's 100% Capper writing the articles.
>>

Exactly this.
A lot of the old horse famous people need to be cleared out, cause a lot of them aren't even involved in the fandom anymore. Hell, people like Omni, Silva and the like don't even participate in the fandom yet they're called for like all major pony conventions. It doesn't make any sense to have someone not involved in the fandom at a fandom event.
Also, for some weird reason, being famous in an internet fandom dedicated to a little girls show makes people into giant self righteous assholes.
>>
>>27865835
I bet a lot of people at cons say they don't watch the show anymore, but they actually do. Some people say they've lost interest, and it's always unclear what exactly they mean, but I've said similar phrases before, but what I mean is that I only actively watch the episodes occasionally, and it is long after the takedown have happened from streaming sites. I bet that if more people knew about yayponies, they would probably still be watching

I also think the bandwagon effect passed, so people lost interest in the show but stayed for the fandom. Hell, most of the people I see who dropped the show did it after S3 but they still drawfag for the fandom.

>>
>>27865890

Pfffpfffffpfffff
>>
>>27865897

>>
>>27865875
I think it's something that EqD is partially to blame for. If you were making content at the start, EqD would have given you loads of free publicity in an early fandom eager for more content. Now, musicians get a mere post where multiple are lumped together. If Bronycon wanted to do something really cool, they should have sought amazing, mostly undiscovered artists that have criminally low views. I would have shat bricks if they got some of the people I listen to. Hell, why don't they pursue people like AlexS and Y@C who actively disavowed the show and fandom? Let them stay in the past. Those guys should be remembered for what they did, but they already got their limelight long ago, let some fresh blood take the damn stage.
>>
>>27865906
It's easy to misinterpret why a lot of people are there, some people go to see community guests, which is pretty crazy, but it is a thing. Some people might act real nonchalant about the show around people they don't know, but they are probably still watching it. I do believe there is a certain point in the fandom that is fairly common when you feel some shame for watching it. Considering that most of us are socially retarded, it's plausible that there is a fan of the fandom bandwagon.

EqD do have spotlight music posts sometimes, so I can't really fault them cause they're doing the best with what they've got.
I think the main problem is the fandom in general, they hail all these fossils in the fandom who aren't even in the fandom instead of the people who actually are. That's why shit like Blackgryphon and Silva get attention when other artists who actually still participate in the fandom get shafted.
In fact, the next time you see a fandom music thread on /mlp/, see the music that's gonna be posted. There's a 90% chance it's either gonna be SGAP, Pinkiepieswear or some other artist who hasn't been involved in the fandom for years. There needs to be a platform for all these new artists to get attention or something of the sort.

The problem is that EqD has constant new updates and everything potentially major is buried fast.
>>
Bronycon fucked with my mind. I thought I saw a hooded Luna cosplayer, but when I actually looked it was a black lady in a dark blue tracksuit pulling a deep purple suitcase behind her.

what were you selling? have any pics?

>SGAP, Pinkiepieswear
As a fan of those musicians, who would you recommend with a similar style? Nobody can tell me what the genre they composed for is even called.
>>

man, I can say for myself at least I didn't base any of my con buying deciaions on brand recognition, just walking around and buying what looked cool

Packing up and geting ready to leave now. My thoughts on the con as a panelist:

- The new location for the board gaming room/stomp space sucks fucking bad. All weekend, even staff members were openly complaining about how badly they hated the new location. It''s entirely out of the way and many people had difficulty finding it. My panel was in there all three days and we had by FAR the lowest attendance we've had in four years. Never had a group below 40 people, Sunday was 18, even our first year in 2013. Part of this was due to lower attendance, but a lot of it was the location too.

- Stayed in the Hyatt. They require keycards to use the elevators and stairs, which sucks shit. Want to invite friends over? Have to go down the elevator, pick them up, and bring them to your room every time someone shows up.

- The staff in the Stomp Space area was AMAZING. Anything we needed, they got, and they even hung around asking questions/helping out with the event itself. They were genuinely curious and cool people who really helped a lot. Gophers were apparently hard to come by this year, so they picked up a lot of the con's slack.

- Artist alley seemed far less interesting this year, not sure why. Last year I got three commissions, this year zero.

- Party scene sucked.

But, of course, none of the bad matters if the company of poeple outweighs it all, which thankfully it did. Hung out with some lifers, met some new people, overall very cool A+.

thank you, anon; I'll check them out once I'm finished packing for my return trip home

People did try to step up though. The only reason we ended up in the conference room was because that anon showed up in the green room and mentioned it.

I don't watch episodes multiple times like I used to but it is weird how people say "I've been too busy to watch the show" but they're at a horsecon. You could marathon the whole thing in the time you spent traveling and drinking.

>>27865849
Some are cool. I liked some of the older guys. Tommy oliver, crowne prince, tetsuo, weim, Greg and plenty of the artists and vendors are chill people.

Even AC and Saber are fine in panels despite their content being crap. They really are better suited to MC/ranting on stage. The problem is thest they're everywhere all the time.

>I've been too busy to watch the show
That's just a different way of saying 'I have no interest in the show but I can't outrightly say it' fan of the fandom bullshit.
>>
>>27865911
It is possible. A couple of the djs in bronypalooza used to be renegade stagers 2 years ago. But you have to be active about performing and pushing for a spot. A lot of cons are just looking to fill slots.

Funny thing is that the Diamond Cunts plan the /mlp/arties, not HN.

This year we were scrambling to the last moment, which sucked, but I think everyone had fun from what I've heard from people on-site. Regardless, we were just happy to get a place, and are gonna fix our mistakes for next year.

Doesn't help that BC's party scene is fuggin cursed.
>>
>>27866130
I still think it's fair to say considering a lot of the crapbin the show now though. Some people just aren't as into the newer stuff.

I haven't got to go to a bronycon yet due to cash issues, am I missing out on much?
>>
The best Bronycon was summer 2012: It had more of a party atmosphere, it was smaller so it was easier to meet people, and it was close to New York so it had the support of more locals. Bronycon has lost all of that:
- It's in a sterile convention center that's so large it feels a bit empty. I prefer conventions that are held in a hotel - it's better for hanging out in rooms and makes cosplaying easier.
- Everyone has to drive or fly to Baltimore, and the convention center is far from the airport. If I'm going on a plane, I might as well go to a city I enjoy.
- Most people stick to their cliques (more a fault that the fandom is 5+ years old than the convention itself).
