I only come here on saturdays for the actual show discussion, sadly we're on a small hiatus right now.
I fucking hate the state of this board, its just endless generals with circlejerking, and borderline not pony related (plane, bird, fetish generals, etc) all of these shitty threads clog up the board with 300+ bumps per thread that kill actual threads discussing show related things.
There needs to be a change in this place, a slow dedicated board is better than a semi-fast full of shit board

The show is nothing special. It's really the fandom that made it what it was. Without all the fan content that was made, the show would have been nothing.

I'm no western animation buff, but I can name Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls and Avatar off the top of my head, for current/recent-ish MLP contemporaries that don't appear to be absolute garbage.
FIM is not some run-of-the-mill cringefest like most of its contemporaries, but it's not like it's completely peerless.

Why only compare it to kids cartoons? It may be watchable as far as kids cartoons go but that doesn't mean the show is that amazing in any way. There a plenty of kids shows that aren't lol so random, and plenty of them with predictable shallow stories with simple life lessons in them.
MLP isn't amazing as a show just in general and its much worse than Disney movies as far as watchable media targeted for children. I don't even think that many kids like MLP so it's not even good when judged on it's own audience.
It's simply an ok show that grew big because of the irony and then the fandom helped draw more people in. There really isn't anything at the core of the show that is all that great.
