To answer OP's question, if a majority of us seem defensive it might be because a majority of us are. It makes sense given that we seem to be the most picked-on, with more than a few memes being based on the legacy of a dashfaggot from long ago. It makes sense if a percentage of us simply learn to be extra defensive, be it for our own or our waifu's sake.
As for why that guy was freaking out about the episode synopses, you could chalk that up to doompauling, the usual 'not even out and it's already shit' meme, or what have you. It could be exaggerated by the fact he was in the dash thread, where most people would agree with him to a lesser extent.

If I were to guess, the fans that do get overly defensive (not all fans just the sperg ones) is because of poorly developed interaction skills with members of the opposite sex that they use RD as an outlet for, thus being hyper protective and enraged by any criticism whether legitimate or shitposting.
The most common personality type applied is not just competitive tomboy but the tsundere archetype as well. This is usually an early warning that this person will lose their shit.
Tsundere can be a cute behavior to a degree but, at least in the western world, is a behavior you don't see beyond primary education age. It is not something you see in later years of development and would be a sign of stunted interaction skills.
Nothing is wrong with being bashful or not being completely open about feelings but the actual behavior seen with tsundere characters (passive-aggressive responses, sudden anger to intimate interaction even if accidental, use of physical violence not in jest, and/or verbal abuse to conceal emotion) are not healthy behaviors beyond adolescent age and only occur in manga or special ed classrooms.
This archetypal behavior however places the responsibility of deciding the interaction in the female's court. The awkward behaviors are hers as she stumbles through her feelings for the target of her affection that override the gruff tomboy persona. It gives the male insert a sense of strong desirability as most tsundere characters do not date, making him the important one that cracks her shell without actually doing anything to woo her.
Thus the fragile ego of the Dashfag demands any threat be treated with maximum hostility lest illusion be distorted by outside influences.
