It's a series of books that are just collections of generic scary stories.
The only one I remember specifically is the one where the girl is playing hide and seek with her friends and crawls into a trunk in the attic and nobody ever finds her and she dies.
Also sometimes the art style makes things like blood/dismemberment look even scarier than real life

Thinking on it now, it seems like the guy sitting in the backseat was on a suicide mission to kill this woman.
If it could be rewritten to where it was like this man and women used to date, and they had a rather bitter breakup, which he took very poorly, and she took just fine and didn't think much of it, which lead to those events.
